| | Bayonet Mount Lightbulbs! Where can I find one in Switzerland??
After getting hold of a ladder and finally working out what type of lightbulb I needed I was on my way to do some Saturday shopping, as I was getting towards the checkout I look at where they have lightbulbs etc and after checking and rechecking... You guessed it! There are no bleeding Bayonet Mount light bulbs!!! Instead they're all screw cap bulbs! So I thought to myself this must be some sort of swiss monopoly where migros only sell one type of lightbulb... ok nevermind... I know there is a Micassa in Zugerland, so I decided to check there and again surprise surprise! None there neither! Ok this is not how I want to spend my saturday specially when the weather is this nice! So I head to the Co-op Bau and Hobby centre further down the road, these guys have everything from shower curtains to bicycle repair kits they will defo have all kind of lightbulbs... errr nope, they don't have them neither!! What???!
So have I missed some sort of SVP legislation that banned the sale of Bayonet Mount Lightbulbs??? Is this country for real?
So not happy with my progress, I decided to tackle the kitchen neon tube lights that have been playing up for a while, so I take the whole thing apart, give it a good clean in the hope that a bit of TLC will just convince it to start working again, after all these things have a 10 year life expectancy and I previously had the same problem with the exact same type of light on the other side of the kitchen and that bit of TLC did the trick... so after nearly half an hour of faffing around it was clear the bulbs are Kaput, nicht working! So off to the Bau and Hobby centre I go again! I got to fix something so I can feel like I've done something productive! But no they don't have these neon tubes because they extra slim and the ones they have that are this thin are not as long... feeling deflated I go home with a sense of defeat but convinced someone fron the englishforum will have the solution to my perdicament!
So people of the englishforum... where do I buy my lightbulbs!
Many thanks in advance!!

the light tubes will have a coding on one end on the glass i suspect its a T5 as T8 is a standard sized household tube. T5 is smaller in diameter but hi output.
it will say T5 55W with 55 being the wattage of course.
for bayonette bulbs i have no idea as we only have scew in bulbs.

Most specialist lighting shops will order them for you if they don't already have them in stock.
I can get them in Lausanne easily enough, so I'm sure you won't have too much of a problem in your part of CH.

The nearest stocker of bayonet light bulbs is probably Currys at Folkestone!
No. I am kidding, I have seen them in French supermarkets, but never in Switzerland.
You would be wise if you chopped off the bayonet fitting and mounted a Swiss / German/ French / Italian screw type fitting.

Cheers guys!

You would be wise if you chopped off the bayonet fitting and mounted a Swiss / German/ French / Italian screw type fitting. | | | | | I actually thought of that too, but the light fixture is in the cellar, and the ceiling is so high and I don't have a high ladder! Hardly worth the hassle!

The US uses only screw-fitting bulbs. A bayonet-fit is much more common in the old British Colonies (and before anyone points it out -- the ones where there was electricity when the British were there!)
If it were me, I'd order what I needed from eBay. It'll cost a couple of quid, but there are plenty of sellers that will ship to Switzerland at a reasonable cost: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Osram-Dayw...item2eb715960b http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x60-WATT-...item3f04fb3064 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60-Watt-BC...item4cf903aa53 | This user would like to thank Village Idiot for this useful post:

Thanks I just checked again now, and the light housing does say EVG T5 35W so thanks for that. I can't believe that Co-op Bau and Hobby don't stock that! It's the biggest DIY centre in Zug! | Quote: | | | | | A bayonet-fit is much more common in the old British Colonies (and before anyone points it out -- the ones where there was electricity when the British were there!) | | | | | How do you explain that all the lights in our cellar are all bayonet fit then?
If this is not common in Switzerland why on earth didn't they have them converted in our apartment block!

One of the flats we lived in here in Switzerland had bayonet fittings in the stairway. I assumed it was to stop folk nicking the bulbs for their own private use. I think I still have a couple in our cellar...
...and before you ask, the ones in our cellar, if still there, are left-overs from a spell in England...

So anyone know any DIY shops in Zug other than The Bau and Hobby Centre? | | | | | Ok just in case anyone needs any of these, I finally found these types of lamps online on www.conrad.ch Hurrah!!
The lamps are not tungsten ones but rather the halogene equivalent but I ain't complaining! Just type B22 and that should bring them up.
I will be making my way to the shop in Emmen on Wednesday! Conrad Locations The mystery Lightbulbs | The following 2 users would like to thank The_Love_Doctor for this useful post:
