French equivalent of Land Registry?

We're trying to track down the owner of a piece of land in France. Does anyone know if there is a French equivalent of the Land Registry that we can consult to find out who owns the land?

Re: French equivalent of Land Registry?

You need to talk to the maire and have a look at the cadastre.

Maybe try here first? I haven't looked at. I just searched on 'cadastre' and this popped up.
