Hi all!

When Pickfords (finally...!) delivered my belongings the week before last, the glass on one of my pictures was broken They have asked me to provide them with a quote for repair, but I have no idea where to begin with this.

I did a search on "bilderrahmen zurich" and called one place, which quoted CHF170 to do the replacement "as a favour". It doesn't seem tooooo much for Switzerland, but I'm fairly sure that the picture wouldn't have cost very much more than that when I got it. Whilst I'm hoping that Pickfords will pay for the repair, I'm not putting money (literally) on it as the service so far has been horrific (I will post all about this too, once the anger has subsided...).

Has anyone been in a similar position? Or does anyone have any other ideas of what I could google for? Maybe I could go somewhere and just get the glass cut to size and do it myself? As well as being substandard in German I am also not very DIY savvy, so sorry if these are really stupid questions

Apologies if this has already been asked - I've had a wee search and could only find threads about framing rather than re-glazing!

I checked for prices for a normal glass frame for a A3 sized and was asked 250CHF. I bought the frame in IKEA for 25CHF.

170CHF doesn't look too much for me if it's a similar size, or even bigger, since it doesn't include the frame itself.

In any case, if the company doesn't pay for it, you can either try to find a suitable sized glass in www.ikea.ch, or drop in Germany/France/Italy for some quick frame work.

I think that I will try the Jumbo in Dietlikon. Will maybe get the German bf to call them up tomorrow to see if they can do it etc

You can buy sheets of glass in Jumbo pretty cheap, if you don't know how to cut it bring it in to me and I'll fit it (I used to be a picture framer).

(and 170.00, unless it's massive is a ridiculous price, even for Zurich)

Try to get a same size frame from second hand shop(Brocki Hause) throw away the frame and use glass.

Let me know the size first, if it's very big I will need to set up a table big enough to take the glass!

It seems you already have plenty of options, but in case somebody else is interested too: if I remember correctly, OBI (Volketswil) also offers a glass-cutting service.

It's not hugely huge - c60x90cm. I will let you know what the Jumbo people say
