Bring furniture into country

I have accepted a job in Fribourg and now comes all the joys of moving over and finding a place to live.

I have been trying to find out as much as I can about apartment etc and have been searching all the sites.

Just have one question (at the moment), as most apartments come unfurnished. Could I bring for example the sofa and bed which I currently have here in Dublin. Will it be liable to any sort taxes, even though they are used?

Thanks

Re: Bring furniture into country

My boyfriend basically had his whole apartment packed up and shipped over to Zurich from the UK. He found a company that regularly made trips to Switzerland and they took care of everything for him, including filling out the relevant forms for bringing the furniture, etc. into Switzerland.

No problem at all if part of your move- but you have to fill all the relevant documentation and present at customs.

So no import taxes?

I am thinking of hiring a van and bringing the stuff myself over
