Big Thanks and recommendation of EF member

As some of you know we recently bought an old farmhouse, it needed a lot of work, some big jobs like raising a ceiling, replacing a supporting beam, insulating and converting a barn etc

We got a few quotes which frankly where taking the piss, then user

http://www.englishforum.ch/members/47773-rtn.html

contacted us, came and spec'ed the jobs and priced them up (way under what the swiss contractors had quoted).

Anyway, we gave him the first job and where more then happy with the results and he ended up doing everything we wanted and more, no half arsed shortcuts.

So here's some pics of the barn conversion, if you have any building or carpentry jobs need doing, then he is your man, he also makes custom furniture, not seen any of it in the flesh but I have no doubt its top notch too.

He's an aussie but don't hold that against him

cheers, a lot of the ideas where actually robs, like the bookcases being built in etc, my only criteria was a white wall for the projector and insulation

that room was the barn, the floor was totally rotten, it had no walls, no insulation etc a total blank canvas as it where. Its been a long hard slog and we're blooming glad its finished!!

he also reclad the outside of the barn and made new super thick doors, so it doesn't let in the -20c anymore

really a good job - congratulations!
we are also renovating, so I was wondering: did you help him or did he physically do everything on his own or with his own staff? it looks like like a lot of work for one man...

We helped, mainly the donkey work so moving stuff around, holding things level while he worked his magic, but a lot of things he did himself, so once frameworks where done, or beams had been put into place then he got on with it.
The cladding on the outside he did totally by himself as we where not living there at the time

eta

he has all his own gear, even scaffolding, all we supplied was coffee

I particularly like the built-in cupboards and bookshelves - they would perfect at our house too. the perfect solution to optimise space in ancient structure which are difficult to change.
thanks for sharing, I might contact him. we are (a bit unconventionally, I admit) looking for someone who'd like to earn a holiday in a beautiful ligurian setting doing a bit of hard work

I think about 6 months for all the jobs, the reason being we where not in a hurry as we only stayed there weekends to start with, so there was no hurry.

Roomba's are great, we had them in the apartment we rented so they could do the whole place, unfortunately in the new place we have raised door frames so they can't get from room to room, or down the stairs
