double mattress on twin bed?

We have twin beds at the flat we rent, pushed together in the lovely Swiss way and frankly me and my boyfriend are sick of falling down the gap between them in the middle of the night!

Even after roping the mattresses together, the gap still grows over time!

So we are now looking at buying a superking size mattress to put on top of the two single bed frames - my question is - is this a really BAD idea? or would it in theory work?

Or are we just being too cheap in not buying a bed frame as well? Its just that matresses are so expensive...

Re: double mattress on twin bed?

The bed frame is usually the cheapest part! If you put a double mattress on the two single frames, check the frames don't make a ridge up the middle of the bed. Then you won't be falling between the two beds, rather balancing on the ridge.

Are the two single beds both 90cm width? If not, you might struggle to find a fitting mattress.

Re: double mattress on twin bed?

Well you could buy just the mattress, and if it does prove to be a really silly idea, you could go back later and buy the bed frame .. but at least this way you'll have taken a conservative approach to the expenditure.

Or buy something from EF. There are so many beds and sofas up for sale here.

Re: double mattress on twin bed?

Yeah il have to check - im not sure if theres a lip on the side of the bed frames.... this may be the deciding factor!

Would love to take advantage of the beds often up for sale on this forum but I don't have a car and normally they need to be picked up from far away!! Don't think i could take a double mattress on the train...

Cheers for the responses guys.
