Time taken to find my apartment

Decided to post a message for those who are scared of a lot of info on that how it is hard to find apartment in Switzerland and so on and so on...
So maybe this will inspire some people that it is not so complicated
So it took me a month, 5 visits, 3 applications and we got i!
In our budget in our preferable place. And everything was done with non German language..
Of course THANKS A LOT FOR EVERYBODY WHO SHARED THEIR EXPERIENCE AND GAVE A LOT OF INFO IN THE FORUM!!!! It helped me very much....
So not so bad everything is
Maybe somebody else would like to give some nice not bad examples of hunting a flat stories to encourage others

Re: Apartment serch time

Good job Vilma!
We too had it easy. We did it from Canada. It took us only a few days. I just googled "Appartement meublé Lausanne". I found something perfect. I exchanged a few emails with the owner and we came to an agreement. They sent me a lease which I printed, signed, scanned and sent back. Then I transfered a deposit equivalent to one month of rent. This was 10 months before the beginning of our lease. Later, some 3 months before coming here, we had to send another month of rent. When we got here, we opened a "compte garantie de loyer" and the 2 months of rent that we had sent to the owner were deposited in the account.

Summary: apartment search time was only a few days and I did not have to be here.

Other positive things to counter the stories I read here all the time:

- I often order from amazon.de and amazon.fr. I never had to pay any Swiss duties or fees.

- I shipped 6 boxes from Canada to Lausanne. Never had to pay any customs fee of any kind.

- Entering Swizerland, nobody even asked to see our passports.

- And that thing about "your neighbours are watching your every move". What the hell is that about?

Sometimes I wonder if I am in the same Switzerland as the Switzerland they talk about on this english forum Switzerland...

Cheers!

According to the location in your profile you're not here at all which might account for the difference.

same here, we searched for three weeks, homegate was the magic. We visited about 7 apartments and applied for 3. We got one of the three.
In the beginning we thought it would be so difficult as we heard lots of stories how hard it is for Auslanders to get apartment here.
