A slightly odd housing-related question

I've noticed that in CH most buildings, even things like free standing utility cabinets, seem to have a number plaque attached to them. This is normally in addition to the house number they might otherwise have.

What is the meaning of this number? Nothing on Google about it anywhere.

Thanks

Neil

Re: A slightly odd housing-related question

It's the Kataster number as referenced in the local land registry.

Being Switzerland every permanent construction has one and this must account for considerable employment for those who make them, install them and enter them in the land registry records...

Cheers - thought it might have been something like that, but I couldn't find information on it anywhere.
