Thanks for the reply, mabern
I'm gonna check their website, it's a good idea, but they sure will only have good things to say about the place. I was just wondering what people thought of the place, but I'll come back to this thread and write about it after I'm there for a while |

| | Re: Best place to live in Zurich city? Wetzikon has a good German school ( HBS ) very close to the railway station, and feels like an industrial place. Uster might be better and closer to Zurich city.

I have to say people usuall consider Altsteten a bad area, but I've been here for 2 months and have nothing bad to say about these place. For singles it may lack bars and discos but you're 20 min max from downtown with Tram 2. I will leaving soon to Thalwil but my wife says she could live in Altstetten.

I would never want to live in Alstetten or Schlieren, too industrial IMHO.

You could check in Wipkingen. I used to live there before and it's very convenient. The highway to the airport area is nearby. The city is 20 min walk or 5-10 with the bus, tramway or car. The river and zurich west are also very close. Good thing when you want to go out or in the summer to sunbathe. Depending on where you live, it could be noisy but I was somewhere in the middle and it was really quiet. The kids where playing on the street and we had a park in front of my appartment.

so my apartment search leads me somehow to areas such as Wiedikon, Kunsthause (base on what I see the area looks quite interesting), Kr 5/4 and Wipkingen (the part that is close to Kr 5 - not norther than Nordstr).
I do not want to live in a quite residential area (although living on a main street itself is not optimal either) and want to be close to the center and the life.
Can you share your experience/opinion about area of Wiedikon area in general (e.g., Goldbrunen platz or between Wiedikon- Binz?
Any thoughts about Kunsthaus area?
thanks a lot!

thanks a lot! | | | | | We live near Friesenberg station, about a 5 minute walk to Goldbrunnenplatz. It's really quiet, but we have the 32 bus which takes around 10 minutes to get to Langstrasse, the S10 which takes 7 minutes to the HB or 14 minutes to the top of the Uetliberg and the 9 and 14 trams which go via Wiedikon and Stauffacher to the HB or Paradeplatz and Bellevue. Sihlcity is also pretty easy to get to too.
There are a few bars and restaurants around, mainly on Birmensdorferstrasse, but with the transport links we normally just head into town, to Langstrasse or Seefeld.
I know someone on here who lives in Binz, a ten minute walk from us and he will tell you a similar story about living there.

| | Dangerous districts in Zürich
Hello,
I am looking for an accommodation in Zürich, as I am moving very soon there to work.
I was wondering if someone could give me a brief description of the "quality of life" in each of the district. I am quite sure that if each person gives the opinion for one district we can complete it.
I would like to know if they are secure, if it is dangerous to walk on the night, if they are residential districts or just industries and companies and you cannot find a supermarket on that area. Thank you !!
District 1, known as Altstadt:
District 2 lies along the west side of Lake Zurich, and contains the neighbourhoods of Enge, Wollishofen and Leimbach:
District 3, known as Wiedikon:
District 4, known as Aussersihl:
District 5, known as Industriequartier:
District 6 is on the edge of the Zürichberg, a hill overlooking the eastern part of the city:
District 7 is on the edge of the Adlisberg hill as well as the Zürichberg:
District 8, known as Riesbach,:
District 9 is between the Limmat to the north and the Uetliberg to the south. It contains the neighbourhoods Altstetten and Albisrieden:
District 10 is to the east of the Limmat and to the south of the Hönggerberg and Käferberg hills. District 10 contains the neighbourhoods of Höngg and Wipkingen:
District 11 is in the area north of the Hönggerberg and Käferberg and between the Glatt valley and the Katzensee (Cat's Lake). It contains the neighbourhoods of Affoltern, Oerlikon and Seebach:
District 12, known as Schwamendingen:
Thank you !!

Well, red light area around Longstrasse, is not the safest.
Otherwise, safety is good enough in the rest of the city.

The only safe place to live near Zurich is Aargau - as most people can outrun the gangs on their tractors. | | | | | |

Seriously though in my brief experience (since Jan this year) I find Zurich to be very safe. I`m comparing it with many UK cities where I would think twice about going out at night.
