Re: Where's the best Zurich area to relocate?

Hi Crumbs,
First time using a Forum too, so thanks for the swift response. We don't want to live in central Zurich as we don't want an apartment. The little one is running us ragged and needs space to wear himself out!
Do you know what the Lake Zurich area is like? We need to find a house ideally...Switzerland seesm SO expensive!

Re: Where's the best Zurich area to relocate?

www.homegate.ch is the standard portal if you're looking to rent somewhere. You can browse in English and you can search using a map, to give you an idea of which areas are in and around Zurich.

If you're set on a house ... you'll most likely have to live in the suburbs unless you and your husband founded a flourishing dotcom and sold it before the bust.

Depending on where your husband is working, Baden may be a good option. It's not *so* far from Zurich and it has an expat community.

Best of luck ...

Am more familiar with the city. Along the lake is nice, but you'd have to be really loaded to afford a house there. It gets "cheaper" the further you are from the city and the "left" side is less expensive than the "Gold Coast" (from City, Zollikon, Küsnacht, Meilen, Stäfa etc.).

Where in Zurich..???

We live in Notting Hill London and will be moving to Zurich in May. When we visited we loved the Seefeld area, but wonder what are the characters of other Zurich areas? At first we'll be in serviced apartments but wonder where we should be looking.

We have 2 young children (2y and 4 months), love the Notting Hill character (except schooling is poor as is real quality of life), cocktails, cool places to wander/people watch and are avid boarders.

Thanks in advance,

Places to live in Zurich

Hi all

I need some information on what places near Zurich we could look at to live in if we are wanting to live in the "country", in a house with a garden (as we have small dogs) - as we will want to travel to Zurich by train for work.

We will be coming to Zurich in July for a holiday and would like to check out the various towns.

Thanks.

Places to live in Kt. Zurich [Commuting Distance to city]

Hello all

Can anyone give advice on nice areas to live outside of Zurich, but in train travelling distance to Zurich. We are looking to move to countryside type area out of the city, which is a "dog friendly" area. We will be looking at renting a house with a garden. What could one expect to pay for a house in country (nothing too fancy).

Thanks for your help.

Tanya

Re: Places to live in Kt. Zurich [Commuting Distance to city]

The area where I live is really nice, lots of places to walk dogs, good schools and the commute to Zurich main station is 28mins. Affoltern am Albis is also close to Zug and has easy access to the mountains.

Where to live in Zurich?

Hello,

we are an anglo-italian family of 4 (2 kids, 3 and 1 ys old), and need to move to Zurich from 1st of July.

Does anybody have any advise on the best areas to live in and around Zurich for families (playground, nurseries, public transport). We are looking for a 3.5 apartment, with reasonable rent (max 1,800CHF).
We visited Adliswill last weekend, since it's close to my husband new job, but I wasn't really enthusiastic about the place.
I have heard good things about Wollishofen. Any other areas you could suggest?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Victoria

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

I'd also like to expand the information to a larger area.
What about, Uster, Adliswil, Bulach etc.
Anyone got any advice on areas outside of Zurich city?

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

This is in reply to the few recent requests for info about places outside of Zurich.
I live in Horgen, on the left side of the lake (looking towards Zurich City) so only know about this side.
Its great for families and alot of towns along the side have english speaking expats becuase there is an international school here.
I also have a 7yr old, but she goes to the local swiss school.

Its very safe, has villagey feel, and houses are available if you want to rent or buy them. We rent a 4.5 for under 2000chf, which is another advantage, the flats here tend to be bigger for the same amount of money as a smaller flat nearer the city.

Thalwil, Kilchberg, Richterswill, Wadenswill all have similar qualities. Thalwil is probably most ideal, as still good for families, but more frequent and faster train connections to the city.

The problem with living here is it feels far out from zurich and I miss living more of a city life. I am late 20's and most expats I meet in this area are in 40's. So havent found a friend to go to the local bar with basically and going out becomes more of a trek as involves meeting people in center of Zurich as most people my age live closer to the city. Thats fine except some times you just want to walk down to your local! If I was a single professional I would love to live somwhere like Enge personally, but thats the city girl in me.

soon in Zurich

Hi all!

I am soon in the same boat.

I am from Sweden (29 years old, woman). I just got a job in Zurich and need to start as of August 1.

I am looking for place to live. For a start I had in mind something simple, a room in shared flat or furnished studio with rent up to max 1000 CHF.

In the long run, I would like to buy a flat (I believe that it is better solution).

Any advices?

Plus, I will also need a friends.

Apartment locations if working for UBS - Opfikon

Hi Folks,

I'm moving to Zurich in August to work for UBS in Opfikon and am looking for some reccomendation for places to live.

I've had a good read through lots of the threads on this site about living locations and I'm really open to live in any Kreis in Zurich.

Ideally i'd like -

-A Modern 2/3 Bedroom Apartment
-Walking distance to Train for work
-Local shops or supermarket - won't have a car
-Local pubs - love beer!
-Easy tram to centre
-Budget of around 2000CHF although the lower the better obviously.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks Folks

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

Fergico I've moved your post to one all about where to live in Zurich. You can figure out commute times using the SBB website. Opfikon is serviced by two stations within a short walking distance Opfikon & Glatbrugg which are the S5 & S7 lines IIRC.
