Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

Are kids that expensive? 9k per month not enough these days? I better eat out more instead of burying my $$$s under the garden shed in a plastic bag.

Has to be Langstrasse. Not a dull moment.

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

Thank you for your info.

What would be considered above average pay per month?

What is a nice place to live next to Zurich?

Where to live in [greater] Zurich area?

Is it possible to live in Zollikon or Kusnacht and commuting to work in Volketswil? I know it is 'possible'- there are buses, trains, etc - but I am concerned with the number of connections and the time it takes to travel btw home and work.
If these two areas are not advisable, where would should we live?
I trully appreciate all the input.
Thanks!
Elizabeth

Re: Where to live in Zurich area?

sbb.ch and zvv.ch and some typing will glean all the information you need to know, unless you have some more specific questions.

Re: Where to live in Zurich area?

Thanks for the links. I have already used sbb.ch and it looks like the places I am talking about are too far apart. Is zvv in German only? I don't know German yet, so if there is a link in English, it would be great.
Thanks.

Re: Where to live in Zurich area?

Küsnacht to Volketswil is probably around 25 min by car (check google maps), but much longer if you want to take public transport because you would need to go to central Zurich first - so I wouldn't advise doing that. Otherwise it really depends on what you're looking for - there are a number of places that might have better public transport connections to Volketswil (maybe Dübendorf, Greifensee or Uster - again just check google maps and you'll see), but those are not as "posh" as Küsnacht and further away from the city center. A good compromise (but also requiring a car) would be Zumikon (expensive) or Forch (less expensive, also very nice) - those are sort of half way between city center and Volketswil.

Thank you so much for this detailed information. Actually, I am in Dubendorf now and I think I'd prefer something more 'posh' like you said. I am not a snob, but having lived in Hong Kong until recently, Dubendorf is a bit of a shock to my system.
thank you!

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

I have only been here a month and have 2 months to go in my temp apartment but am desperate to get out asap as its soooooo small!!! Its a nightmare! Apartments are like gold dust!

I saw one a couple of weeks ago in a nice area, quiet.. easy access to transport and walking/cycling tracks on the hill above Kreis 7, it was ideal. Unfortunately, about 50 other people liked it too and alas... I did not win the lottery this time!!

Areas I have been advised to search are... Seefeld, Klusplatz and most of Kreis 7 and Kreis 6 (Shaffhauserplatz) but I too am open to suggestions.. I like running and walking and would rather be uphill a bit..

Good Luck with the search :-)

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

"8000" is the general post code for the entire municipality of Zurich. It is not in use for postal addresses, the municipality is divided in zones with codes in the 80xx range. I suggest to go to the start of this thread an to take a look at the maps that DaveA linked.

Re: Best place to live in Zurich city?

Zürich-Leimbach was and always will be the place for me:

1. Sihltal Bahn every 10 (20) mins.
2. Green, Sunny and quiet
3. All schools necessary
4. All shops necessary except Globus and Jelmoli for clothes etc.
5. Never standing in a row in traffic
6. Never standing in a row in Post, Migros, whereever
7. You are so far out yet still in Stadt Zürich (Regenbogenkarte )
8. Friendly, "landly" people with the buzz of Zürich in them, a fantastic combination
9. Home sweet home!
