Where to buy Light Fixtures in Zurich

I moved into my flat last week and there are 7, count them 7 ceiling light fixtures I need to purchase. I am struggling because in the US light fixtures are usually included. Where is a good place to purchase them besides the obvious: Ikea, Interio, Fly and Pfisher?

Also if anyone knows of anyone selling some, please send me a picture and price.

Thanks!

Lumimart ,
EKZ, Dreikönigstrasse 18
Lampen Shop, Badenerstrasse 157
Timbuktu Store, Forchstrasse 271

See also.

I do not know what you want, cheap (up to 100.-), expensive (several 1000.-), classic, modern, contemporary, simple, kitsch, ambient, spot, direct, indirect.
Or super cheap? Also available in bigger Migros (City or Brunau), Coop (St. Annahof), or Jumbo, Bau&Hobby etc.

One of your cheapest options is to go to IKEA. Not a bad selection and the pricing is about the best there is.

Re: Where to buy Light Fixtures in Zurich

If you are ok to spend a little for shipping, buy them in the US and have them shipped here. I did this with hard wired and free standing lights. The free standing need adapters or plug change and a local light bulb, but everything works like a charm for a fraction of the cost. Ikea of course is a no fail and no shipping blah blah option...

Re: Where to buy Light Fixtures in Zurich

Hello,

We arrived a couple of weeks ago from the UK. We're used to renting, and even buying, places that already have at least a solitary cable and bulb hanging from the ceilling in each room. Having now had all our lights here fitted, our top tips for other newcomers would be to:

1. Check your flat has three wires (live, neutral and earth) coming out of each ceiling hole. There may also be a hook, which is useful. If not, ask your landlady for help.
2. Go to IKEA, Bauhaus or similar and buy the basic cable fittings and bulbs that you need. It's just a white 'cup' and stright white cable ending in a bulb socket. From IKEA the fittings cost only 4 CHF and in Bauhaus I think they were 8-9 CHF.
3. Arrange a handyman to come and fit them (it doesn't need an electrician particularly)
4. You can then choose the lampshades or more interesting fittings at a more leasurely pace and these can be added later.

Good luck!
E

Or you can do it yourself, it's much more fun.

Re: Where to buy Light Fixtures in Zurich

Our local EKZ (the electricity company for Zurich) had basic pendulum style lightglobe holders for under 5chf each. You can also get them at the supermarket. They are *extremely basic* but you can easily add a lampshade - Ikea or whatever.

You will find a selection of very cheap (and old-fashioned) lamps, shades etc at the brockenhaus. www.brocki-land.ch

I have absolutely no need to have the latest fashion in lighting, and have built my collection from the brockenhaus very cheaply...you can always 'upgrade' later - once you have a basic fitting...
