Singing in my apartment

I dont know if im ever going to get used to this apartment living!
Is it considered ok to sing loudly in your apartment, the swiss are such quiet beings, never hear a peep from them!
My poor neighbours (although not yet recieved any complaints) have to put up with my random disney singalongs, musical attempts and various operatic notes just because they burst out of me.
Is it just me, hope there are others out there who feel the need to burst into song randomly! Haha

If what one reads here is true in the German speaking part of the country, you'll get a note from your gerance and not your (poor) neighbors.

My ex was an opera singer who drove the neighbours crazy, ever one of her cats could not handle the high notes & would keep running full speed into the front door trying to break it down!

Re: Singing in my apartment

The exact times depend on the rules for your village, but generally from 7 am to 8 pm you can make as much noise as you like.

In some places there is a mid day quiet period maybe from 12 to 2pm.

After 8 pm you should be able to hold a normal conversation even with the TV switched on, so no singinging after 8 pm. After 10 pm you should be really quiet and avoid dropping things on the floor.

Look on the webpage for your village for the exact rules, www.my-village.ch

Re: Singing in my apartment

If you're going to do a lot of singing, why don't you check out how sound travels in your building, and workout which is the best room for controlling the sound.

Otherwise I don't think there should be a problem unless you're breaking into song in the evenings or at the crack of dawn.

You could also talk to your neighbours and let them know that you will be practicing but that you are aware of the hours for quiet time.

I play and sing (and so do my music students) for large chunks of each day, but I talked to all my neighbours first before I started my business, and I don't teach after about 7pm.

Happy singing!

Why not just ask them if they mind? Have a chat- talk- communicate- smile.
Likely they'll say 'oh we don't mind, it's lovely, makes our day'. This does not depend on the gerance, the rules, the town - but on your neighbours. Some or all will love it, be happy to bear with it, or hate it with a vengeance - perhaps depending on the time of day or night - and hmmmm, your voice and talent.

You said it and if I am honest, if I had someone in the apartment block 'bursting into song' all the time, I would go up and complain to them for being a pain in the ass.
It might be happy and smiley for you but probably not for your neighbours.
