UK washing machine and tumble dryer

Hi.
Unusually, the house we are about to rent will not come equipped with washing machine and tumble dryer. Can anyone tell me if ours from the UK will fit (plumbing) and work?

Cheers.

Yes it will work. You'll need to get a y connector as in Switzerland washing machines are only cold fill unlike the UK where they are hot a cold. Using the y connector you can connect the two pipes for the machine (red and blue) to the single tap.

Washing machines have been cold fill only in the UK for years. Maybe it depends on the manufacturer.

Is it a house you rent, or is it a flat?
If it's the latter, it's worth checking whether you are allowed to have a washing machine and/or a tumble dryer in your flat, or only in a communal laundry room, or not at all.
If you rent a "proper house", you should ask for a plan that shows where the machine should go ie where there's appropriate plumbing. You may need to switch to metric fittings if yours are imperial.

It must do as my Mum's was hot and cold fill and it's only 3 years old and my SIL one is too. It's an absolute pain if she turns it on while you're trying to have a shower.

You can fix that with a Y adapter and connecting it to the cold only. As you yourself suggested My machine in the UK, about 10 years old, is a Miele which probably explains why it's cold only.

Does it not also depend on the electric supply in some areas, for instance at my parents-in-law's place the washing machine runs off a high-voltage supply (which is switched off at lunchtime, well, it is in Wallis)?

Re: UK washing machine and tumble dryer

As the last poster has pointed out, you will probably need to look at the electrical ratings. Simple Swiss electrical outlets are rated at 10A only, whilst your washing machine probably draws 13A (or possibly even 16A).
