You can get a sticker from the post office I think that basically says no unsolicited mail or something similar. Stick it to your post box and you will only get mail addressed to you.

"Bitte Keine Werbung" sticker - where are they obtainable?

Reverting "Bitte Keine Werbung"

Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

I don't know if it's the right thing to do but I was so miffed at getting so much junk mail I started putting a strikethrough on my address and writing "Refusé" on the envelope and dropping it back into the post box. Most junk mail has an originating address on it and they would (probably) have to pay for the return postage.

My addressed junk mail dropped by two thirds in about 6 months.

Simple, sign up with a fake address. That's what I did but my IKEA card and Migros card still both work (and this is several years later).

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

Easy to stop junkmail by putting a sticker on letterbox- but if you sign up for a Migros, Coop or Ikea (etc) membership card, then the post they send is addressed to you, and then the post HAS TO deliver it. Unless you use Amogles strategy- but I am not clever enough to have thought of that! Mind you the Migros magazine is quite interesting and has lots of vouchers.

But if you sign up with a fake address, you wont get the free coupons they sent every 3 months or so

How about if you use the address of Ikea's headquarters office, or at least on of their stores?... I'm definitely doing that next time!

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

It is important to distinguish between addressed mail, which is NOT junk mail, and flyers etc, which are not addressed.

Putting a sticker on your letterbox will only stop the unaddressed mail.

If you signed up for cards such as Ikea, Migros, Coop, there was an option to unsubscribe to mail when you first applied. To exercise this option now you will have to write or call referencing your membership number.

As others have pointed out, these membership cards include mailings with special offers and discount coupons.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

We get tons of junk mail even after putting a sticker "Keine verbung".

At point my wife was calling Basler Zeitung's office to tell them not to send us these newspapers as we don't read German and it's an inconvenience to recycle them, but we still get these as we live in a house and our mailbox is outside for everyone to post their junk mails.

As the junk mail is unaddressed I can't even return them in the post. is there anything we can do to stop receiving such mails i.e electrifying our mail boxes.....

I actually like junk mail. Because:

1. It shows you the heartbeat of the current marketing culture.

2. It's useful to improve your language skills.

3. Some of the smaller pamphlets make great beer mats.

If your address is on the magazine, they have to deliver it.
But you can call them or wright an email saying you don't want the magazines anymore, should work.

However it didn't work with the bloody "Kirchenbote", years ago. I don't belong to a church, never did. so called them up, said they could stop sending me their newsletter and they hung up on me! twice!
Third time they got the drift, never heard or seen anything of them again.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

We're getting increasing amounts of addressed mail, often from charities (kinder krebsligue, paraplegic league for example). Is there a centralised organisation that you can register with to take your name off mailing lists (I'm thinking along the lines of the mailing preferences service in the UK). I know you can mark your entry in the phone book as not desiring commercial calls, but is there anything similar for your address.

It's just such a waste of paper, resources, time and money.

There is the Robinson liste which is checked by some of the direct mailing companies: http://sdv-konsumenteninfo.ch/selbst...obinsonlisten/

But it looks like not by charities.

I'll reiterate my post from above...

I get maybe one or (max) two further mailings after I've sent them back at their expense then hear no more from them.

I often think if everyone did this, it would prove too expensive for companies to send out the junk in the first place, as it all comes back, unread, at their expense.

I still get flyers for pizza delivery, cleaning companies and assorted spiritual healing but very little in terms of targeted or addressed junk.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

I really hate the Migro's and Coop's thick paper magazine every week! What a waste of paper. They talk everything Bio and contribute so much waste for everyone. Must be tons of it going out every week all over Switzerland, but why? Why don't they just print out a sale add for the week and leave the other stuff to the regular news papers. This might be the junk mail that is mentioned. Not only would they save paper but reduce the work that goes into it, my recycle paper pile would be so much lighter.

Go to your m-connect account (you have one because you are a Migros member) and simply choose not to receive the magazine.

The same, I think, exists for coop.

Re: how can I stop the junk mail from Coop,IKEA..etc

Having stopped the various newspapers (Migros etc), I want to get deeper into this 'cleanse' from junk mail.

I get addressed mail each week which is promotional / junk mail (form firms I have ordered things from in the past, so they legitimately have my address).

The laborious method would be to call/mail each of them with a form letter, and add in my customer number were relevant. As it's also good for my German skills to work out how to phrase this, so I have tried below. it may be useful for some of you.... But I welcome any tips, German corrections or suggested improvements, as I suspect it might be "clunky".

What I mean to say in German is basically " I don't want any more letters/newsletters or promotional material. please unsubscribe me and delete my details from your lists." but I am not satisfied with the google translate which is "Ich möchte keine weiteren Briefe / Newsletter oder Werbematerial von Ihnen mehr haben. Bitte melde mich von allen Newslettern ab. Bitte entfernen Sie meinen Namen und Ihre Adresse aus Ihren Listen und Datenbanken."

Its sounds a bit odd/brief. So have tried writing it out properly:

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren

Ich möchte in Zukunft keine Benachrichtigungen, Marketing oder Newsletter mehr erhalten.

Können Sie mich bitte aus Ihrer Liste austragen?

Bitte mein name und address:
-Von der Empfängerliste streichen
-Aus dem Verteiler nehmen
-Newsletter abbestellen

Ich bedanke mich bei Ihnen im Voraus

Any suggested edits to the above?

p.s. <I may be dreaming, but just in case> Is there is a service with Swiss Post where I can bring them a pile of this mail and they do it for me?
