Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

Not too helpful, since the holes have been in the walls for 9 years already. Plus, many of these holes were to put up sturdy shelving. I wouldn't trust your sticky stuff for that!!!

Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

I think it's mentioned earlier in this thread, but buy a tube of filler (spatel), a pallet knife to smooth it over and some fine sand (glass) paper to gently rub down and blend in.

If it still looks obvious, and the wall is white, apply some slightly watered down white (water based) dispersion paint, with a small brush. Allow to dry and sand gently.

Always check colour match in a small corner first - otherwise you may end up having to paint the whole wall/room.

It's a procedure favoured by those in the torturing profession.

Because that does not hold nearly as well or relliably as a hook + wall plug. And to make matters worse, it will take a lot of wallpaper and/or paint with it once you remove things to mmove out. That damage is often more difficult to repair than a simple hole.

These are only good for hanging up things weighing in at less than 1kg. I wouldn't trust them for anything that can break, or is of value, or which might cause injury to those sitting/sleeping below it. It's for towels and posters basically.

OP,

if you want to hang heavy objects on the walls without nails, check out these

I found them in Migros.

The ones I mention hold 7.2 kg, according to the link...

How anyone manages to put holes in these walls I'll never know.
Use one of these. Of course, then you have to find a giant hammer.

Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

You could ask your landlord to put up the picture rails for a few CHF, tell him you are not good at things like that, if he agrees you won't have to worry about putting them right as he would have made them...

Just an alternative thought

Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

You don't have to pay anything. If you move out you just have to fix it somehow. Means you remove all the nails and dowels and fill the holes somehow.

My contract says not to fill the holes. But I don't know whether to disregard that clause. I have heard horror stories from other expats (this doesn't happen to Swiss) that they were charged for repainting the walls where holes had been and then told that it wouldn't look nice if only some walls were repainted, so they were charged for the repainting of the whole apartment! I guess they can't do that to you if you've lived there 10 years, but I will be leaving after 9! Any advice?
Well I didn't research enough or read enough before changing my apt and got badly whacked with a complete repainting of 3 of the rooms in my apt when I moved. However the regie was decent enough to explain that there is a life for everything in the apt - a paint job is typically done every 6-7 yrs, the flooring every 9-10 (this will depend upon apt/leasing agencies). Based on that and how long you have stayed in the apt will determine the cost which you might have to pay. I had to pay 50% of the total cost of the repainting. They sent me the final invoices for the overall amount, agreed upfront I would pay only 50% and that is what I had to pay. I had stayed 4 yrs and ummm didnt leave the walls without any pock marks

Oh another thing - take an insurance this covers any damage except normal wear and tear. Ideally except for damage the landlord should not be able to charge. Get the insurance involved. Learnt my lessons now !!!!

Hope this helps...

else get one of the cleaning companies to help you (hire them to clean the complete apt and fix the holes)....

Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

Reminds me of my own attempt at drilling holes in the wall - if there's a lot of smoke, try changing the chuck so that the drill rotates in a clockwise direction

Re: How much do I need to pay if I put holes on the wall

I tried searching the forum and online but no luck.

We moved into our place couple of months back and the previous tenant has the previous holes filled (with a light cream substance). During move-in, we were suggested by the agency to try to use the same holes if possible.
Being drilling amateurs, wanted to check if there a difference between drilling new holes vs re-drilling holes (in terms of method of drilling, what to keep in mind etc.)? Thanks,

Always good to know where the electrical cables run before you start drilling.
