| | Best way to clean windows
Nice simple one. I hope!
Planning to clean my windows after the dusty summer (outside), and the greasy fingers (inside).
I'm thinking of using soap & water, a sponge, wiped down with a handheld windscreen wiper style thingy.
But is there a better way? I tried the windoleen approach but still looked a bit smeary.

Alcohol and newspaper. You don't have to use your Grey Goose. There is cleaning alcohol in the cleaning section of coop.

Our windows were particularly grimy outside due to traffic, weather, bird poo, etc. so I first had to give them a going over with some soapy water to break up the grease. This obviously left them really streaky (but clean, at least!) so then I just used kitchen towel squirted with a bit of window cleaner to make them crystal clear.
I also tried newspaper once but it made a mess of the (white) window frames with the ink. |

Use water and soap or whatsoever and next get something like that for 5 bucks from Coop Bau und Hobby or Jumbo or whatsoever:
I always do it like that and the pros do it the same way.

You can also use vinegar (diluted). I used apple cider vinegar last time because we didn't have white and it worked great.

I like to use Ajax tip top in a bucket of water. It will dry streak free on high gloss surfaces and for windows I will use the squeegee thing. It works great for our high gloss stuff from Ikea that always have kiddie fingerprints on them, as well as on all surfaces in the kitchen.
The only problem is, I am not sure if it is sold in Switzerland, don't know if Amazon will ship this item here, I have always picked it up in Germany... | Quote: | | | | | Alcohol and newspaper. Do the vinegars and cleaning alcohols effectively remove the mineral deposits left by the hard water?
Thanks!

Thanks! | | | | | On the windows or general cleaning? I recently used some of that antikal stuff for the windows that get splashed from our little pool that had tons of deposits on them, but you have to be careful that you don't have aluminum surfaces, etc. I squirted it on, rubbed all over the window and then just rinsed with the garden hose (obviously outside) and squeegeed dry.
But, seeing by your screen name, not sure I should help if you are an Aggie, me being a Texas-ex | This user would like to thank drmom for this useful post:

I usually hire someone else. A "professional". This is the Swiss approach. | This user would like to thank Village Idiot for this useful post:

I can never get my windshield clean on the inside. Any tips for that? The window cleaner leaves terrible streaks.

I buy cheap white alcohol vinegar from the supermarket in France, about 35 cts for a litre bottle. Use it neat on shower, tiles, sink, taps, stainless steel sink, etc- then leave for a minute or two before I wipe- it clears limescale off brilliantly. For windows I dilute it about 50% in a spray bottle, and use a special window cleaning cloth which leaves no deposit.
After a couple of decades of cleaning leaded Kritter windows in the UK, our double glazed Swiss windows are a dream Fly poo is a total pain though (:

Has anyone tried one of those steam things they advertise on the telly.
They look good, but then they would, wouldn't they?
