Maid\ House keeper- hope this is the right place

Hi guys..
I have a question that might sound a bit strange but I really would like some help with it.

At our apartmnet we have a cleaning services.. a maid supposed to come once a week and clean the place. However we never had a maid before and I'm not sure what are the "rules" about this.. what I mean is: should I stay at home while she cleans? Should I help her with things?

Thanks for your answers,
Albina

You might want to stay in the apt. while she is there in case there are any questions (anything special you want her to clean for example).

No, you do not help her. Just stay out of the way. Since I guess it is a furnished apt., she should come with her own cleaning supplies and vacuum cleaner. Or the company may have products already in the apt.

Normally, you make sure the dishes and other items in the kitchen are put away so she can clean. Same thing in the bathroom. In the bedroom, everything should be off the floor so she can pass with the vacuum cleaner. Same thing in the living room. Pile up the magazines and papers etc. so she can clean the furniture.

Re: Maid\ House keeper- hope this is the right place

In my experience be very clear from the start how you want things done. I always ensure my house is immaculate on their first day so they know your standards are high and maintain them. I shared a maid with a friend who was much messier than me and the maid didn't work half as hard at my friend's house as she did at mine as she presumed high standards were not necessary.

At first i would stay in the house with her but as you familiarise yourselves with each other you can start to leave her to it. You may find she does a better job without you there.
