AirBnB for furnished apartment?

Hiya

Just wondering if anyone here has had any experience using the AirBnB website to find a short term furnished apartment?

All the Best!

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

Thank you both for your reply, I'm going to see what I can find! I've been looking on home.ch at furnished apartments, but they all seem to be booked.

I know this is a bit off of my original post, but can I ask if there is a limitation for how far in advance you can ask to take an apartment? I'm looking online now for an apartment for January 2013 because I thought that people are supposed to give 3 months notice. Can they also give one months notice as well or does it depend on the building/landlord?

Thanks for the read!

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

The 3 months notice does not apply for airbnb. I have a colleague who found a place and reserve it 2 days in advance for the next 3 months. It depends on the owner of the apartment registered with Airbnb.

It will require you though for a security deposit.

Do you need the landlord's permission?

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

I have also listed my apartment on airbnb and rented out during the summer period, since it went really well I continued with that.

Today I got a letter from my landlord, Apparently one of my neighbors reported to my landlord that I gave multiple people the key to the apartment. Why are Swiss neighbors so annoying? Why would they care about what other neighbors do, it's none of their business!

Because they are jealous that you thought of it first and are making a profit where they are not

It would be proper to inform your landlord, yes. Neighbors, no.

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

It doesn't matter that your neighbours complained. What matters is what your landlord says. What did he say? That you couldn't give people a key? I don't believe he has the right to say that. I also don't think he can stop you subletting.

I've read on here before that you're not allowed to sublet for a profit, but assuming you're short-term letting out a furnished aparrment, and assuming you're renting long-term an unfurnished apartment, there's no way to calculate any profit. So you're ok. imo.

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

Fair enough, I can understand that the landlord want to know who is living in the apartment, but in case of airbnb it's unrealistic to assume that I send them a copy of the contract each time I have a new booking. I want harass them as least as possible.

Brief, airbnb is awesome, but if you have annoying Swiss neighbors, you should reconsider listing it.

IMO, in a case like this, if I were the landlord, I would want to be informed.

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

I have six keys to my apartment, CLEARLY multiple people have keys (I certainly don't use all six myself)!

Yes, I understand this. That's why I'll refrain from putting my own place on airbnb in the future. I'm a foreigner in this country and the last thing I want is to loose my beautiful apartment. All because of the stupid neighbors!

Re: AirBnB for furnished apartment?

So as a foreigner on a B permit with an apartment contract in my name, can we rent out our second bedroom now and again?

We were hoping to do this to contribute towards our rent. Nothing long-term just a couple of nights every few weeks.

Is this allowed? Our landlord lives in the same apartment block, but who's to say that the people staying are not friends or relatives?

Especially if the landlord lives in the same building, it will become obvious what you are up to. People talk.

If your contract states no sub-letting, then the answer to your question is clear.

Best bet, ask the landlord.
