Accommodation in Geneva

Hi, I am most likely starting my internship in Geneva on the 23rd December. I've heard that it is really difficult looking for a place to stay in Geneva. It'd be great if any of you know any websites that I can browse for places to stay in Geneva.

It's a 6 month internship, so I'll be needing a place for 6 months.

Oh, forgot to mention, somewhere maybe 10mins away from Parc des Eaux Vives.

Accommodation in Geneva

Guys, I will be heading to Geneva in December for a 6 month internship, and I need a place to stay. Anyone know of any good websites or reliable agents I can look for a place to stay? A student accommodation is probably better.

I got a recommendation from my internship officer, but based on the photos, it looks a little run down and dodgy. He says many students live there, but I'm not too keen on it.

Re: Accommodation in Geneva

The set of requirements you have in combination with location you require make your post for people here experienced with accommodation in Geneva sort of a joke... big one.
Read around, post more info etc. Ie do you mind spending 2000-3000 chf per month for something simple? Geneva has one of worst accommodation situation in world

Re: Accommodation in Geneva

If they have space at the hostel - take it. Unless you have a huge budget you won't find anything in that location, short-term especially.

Re: Accommodation in Geneva

There are a few Facebook groups you can join which regularly list sublets, they're UN-based but not at all exclusive.
  • UNHCDP (Geneva Interns Social Page)
  • Ex UN Geneva interns
If you see something you like, jump on it quick because these things get scooped up in a matter of days.

Also sign up to glocals.com, which is a good guide for all things Geneva.

I'm looking for something maybe around 1000CHF a month... Is that something realistic?

If you want your own place, then I'd expect to pay a bit more for something decent, in the range of 1200-1400. Apartment shares come cheaper though, so that would probably be your best bet.

anibis.ch is another good resource for sublets.

Re: Accommodation in Geneva

OP,

I have to question your starting date of 23 December 2012. You do realise this is a Sunday? You will work/study on 24 Dec then the next day is Christmas day (a public holiday). This will mean a lot of public services and shops are likely to be closed.

I would strongly suggest you delay until the New Year, if feasible.

I know, but it is not an official holiday in Geneva (at least in my office anyway).

My advice is to take the place that was offered to you. Seriously.

Not possible. I will be working at Parc des Eaux Vives, so Sunday is still a working day.

Yea, I'm studying Hospitality and Tourism Management in Le Bouveret. Doing my 6 month placement in Parc des Eaux Vives.
