Re: Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD

Having queued at the supermarket checkout for quite a while yesterday, I then had to queue at the newspaper kiosk because the new white gargage bags can only be bought there. The excuse from the staff for not selling the bags in the supermarket is that the bags were being stolen from the shelves.
I'd intended to visit the decheterie on the way to the supermarket, but it was closed.
I'm heartily sick of all this rubbish!

these sacks are a sack of... <insert your own here>

i don't understand why they cannot adopt a system similar to what they have in Melbourne.
A bin for fresh clippings/compost, a bin for glass/cans, a bin for paper/cardboard, and a bin for other household waste. this makes me so mad...
This is the system here in Lausanne, except the everything that goes into the bin for the other household waste has to go into these white plastic bags first, indicating that you have paid the tax that paid for these waste to be taken away.

So people are stealing them from behind the cashiers' stands? That's pretty bold.

Re: Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD

At Coop in Ecublens the new bags where available in the middle of the aisle, before the cashiers, in view. I naively thought they would be near the black bags, but they aren't and lost some time before finding them.

Also, if I understood the communication form the commune correctly, there is also a tax that will have to be paid each year, on top of the one paid implicitly by buying the white bags.

I really don't understand why they haven't given any time of transition between one to the other trash bags at all.

Now you have black bags all over the city with stupid stickers on them "déchets non conformes" instead of the trash people just taking them with them. It's absolutely horrific. I wonder who will give up first, the people using the black bags or the city council because entire Lausanne stinks of garbage.

Re: Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD

I heard on the radio yesterday morning that the authorities are rummaging through those offending non-conforming black bags in an attempt to trace the culprits.
If you have the neighbour from hell, now would be the time to put something incriminating them into a non-conforming black bag............only joking people

yes, but we don't have the freedom of disposing this waste in any type of bag we like.
I'm surprised supermarkets are still offering regular plastic shopping bags for customers, rather than forcing us to use reusable carry bags.

Re: Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD

I wonder if we will hear about people sneaking around at 3am, transferring the contents of white bags to black bags and absconding with the precious 2 franc sacks. Or just dumping the white sacks out on the ground?

I use 110 liter sacks in my workshop; happened to buy a new roll of black ones mid December . So I slip a black one inside a white one- I can now cram two sack's worth of waste into one double-bag without it exploding!

But you were given plenty of warning that the new rules would be put into place in January so really you should have been prepared for it.

We had the same thing in Neuchatel last year and now it seems like it's always been this way. It's amazing how much you can squeeze into the official bags with a bit of creativity.

Re: Have you bought the new waste sacks - VAUD

Well, I just been to LS and I concur, it is a stinky mess. It seems to be only there, though, the rest of the canton has adjusted pretty ok, it is rare to see the rebel black bag around at collection times.

The LS authorities will decide if they continue with fining the culprits 200fr. It's a lot, but this seems to be the only way to reduce the amount of garbage. The mountains of domestic waste in my area has reduced by 60% on collection days.

I don't really seem what the unfairness is, since the rest of the country has had this forever. I think we are polluted by the leftist whiff coming from Geneva. It is expensive, but getting rid of trash is not cheap.

The only thing I majorly dislike is that there is no sanitary place in a house to store the garbage between the collection times. Who has ever heard on dumping domestic waste at the basement, without having a designated area that gets regularly sanitized. Public heath authorities I know back home would vomic.

Lol, just this morning my grandmum explained to me how she squishes dirty tissues and such in her empty yogurts pots to gain space in the white bags

Oh yes that's just one of the tricks. We've been doing that for years as we already had to buy bags back in Belgium. It becomes second nature after a while.

I have been told that people with children get a refund because of the implentation of these sacks, an amount around CHF200,-
Does this also depend on the village you live in, e.g. Morges? As I haven't been informed by the Commune about this..
Thanks

It does indeed depend on the commune. Some chose to give a few rolls of free bags to the families, others to deduct it from the yearly taxes.

You should simply go ask to your commune, it's the easiest.

What has your commune put in your mail box, over the christmas period? We had a pack with all the information, should be in there.

Well I think it's going very well where we live (insert sarcasm here)...

I can sense we have some rebels in the neighbourhood.

I've been thinking of printing up little piggy stickers and pasting them up on house with trash in front of them.

FFS, it's not that difficult to buy a white bag and put your trash in it!

We received official notification via post on the 19th of December. If that's plenty of time you obviously don't have that much to do over Christmas.

On a separate but related issue, to go to the Decheterrie (sp!?) you need to have a card to say you live in Lausanne. I ordered said cards (for me and my girlfriend) three weeks ago. They haven't arrived yet so a large wardrobe just went out in a bag this evening.

I don't have a problem with the system, I have a problem with the poor and rushed official implementation of it.
