Simultaneous apartment renting applications

Hello,

Given the high demand for Apartments in Zuerich and the high rejection ratio from the Verwaltungs, can one put in simultaneous apartment applications with different renting companies? What happens if one gets (un)lucky and is offered accommodation from more than one quarter? Is there also a possibility to reject an offer later? Thanks for pointers.

This is the normal thing to do, put in an offer for every apartment you like and hope you get one.

Be aware though that many application forms state that if you apply and refuse the apartment you have to pay an "administration" fee.

I would avoid the ones which charge admin fees for filling out the form. Some places in NYC did this and called it move in fees etc. Good point as it is then important to read the form and see if they charge for applying if you refuse the offer.

Sorry to revive an old thread but my question is related and it might be best to keep a single thread.

Has anyone had to pay the administration fee or penalty for having their application accepted and then turning it down? I've just applied to a few apartments and was just wondering what would happen in the highly unlikely event I got more than one. Can it be legal to force someone to accept a contract if they haven't seen it before? Surely the conventional way of doing this would be to call it an application fee that is deducted from the first month's rent. That way the fee is for the application. Suppose I was offered an apartment but when I went to sign the contract I objected to one of the terms, for instance, the cost level at which the responsibility for repairs shifted from me to the landlord. If they refused to alter that clause, couldn't I decline to sign?
