Applying for an apartment without a copy of Ausländerausweis

Dear all,

I'm very happily getting ready to apply for an apartment that I'm interested. But I just realized that I do not have an Ausländerausweis yet. I have an appointment with the immigration on March 28th (I've moved in on the 17th).

Have any of you had an experience applying without it? Also, I notice that there is no option available other than A, B, and C permits in the Anmeldung fur Wohnraume form that I received. The Human Resources informed me that I will get a L permit for the first two years and then a B permit in the third year. In this case, what should I fill in instead?

Thanks,
Juhwan

Re: Applying for an apartment without a copy of Ausländerausweis

Hi.

I've been there and honestly without a proof of a permit it will be very unlikely to get an apartment.

For me the kreisburo gave me a piece of white paper in a piece of plastic that was supposed to be a proof that I was getting a permit soon.

You should also ask for your company to write you a letter saying that they will give you an L permit for 2 years and later on you'll get a B and attach it to your application.

Since it's really hard and it takes a loong time to find an apartment in Zurich if you don't have any connections, I would recommend you to attach as much papers as you can to convince the agency, otherwise they will only look that you don't have a permit and they won't even look at the rest of your application.

I wish you good luck!

Thanks. The HR wrote me an official letter. I hope this works.

You know... my first application form even has no option for L permit. I'm not sure if this is common though. But, I wonder how many apartments there are in Zurich. I'm sure we all will find one soon. Good luck!

Re: Applying for an apartment without a copy of Ausländerausweis

I got my first apartment when I still had L permit. Luckily it was a private property, and I dealt with the Landlord himself, he was fine with me with the L Permit, as he knows that I have a full time job.
I was also applying for other apartments and I noticed that some application forms dont give you the L permit box to check mostly are from big property managements.
So I guess if you really like that particular apartment, talk to the manager or landlord, give proof from your company and references from your boss or collegues and see if they accept your applications. good luck!
