Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Hello everybody,

I will move to Basel next week (not yet found an apartment) and need to buy all kinds of things, first of all furniture and things for the kitchen.

Does anybody know a good place to buy second hand furniture? I guess there is IKEA somewhere as well?

All tips are welcome =)

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Hello, welcome to Basel!

Why don't you post a introduction?

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...reName=iny_292

This may help with ikea, it's a little outside central Basel next to the motorway, but reachable by tram (be careful with the tram timings though or you could be left with no way back!)

Alternatively on a trawl of kleinbasel the other week I found some second hand furniture shops off the main drag down the side streets.

Another option is to search this forum for people leaving Switzerland who are selling items.

Good luck and we hope to see you for a beer soon!

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Hi, I have a similar question. I'm looking for a crib to rent (preferably) or to buy from someone in the Basel area. I'm waiting for my container to arrive in Basel that has our crib, but need something to hold me over for a month or so. Does anyone know of a place that will rent a crib in Basel area?

There is one second hand furniture in Biningen. Tram 2. I have never been there, but I saw some furniture outside and they were quite nice. Good luck!

Hej Marcus!

Välkommen till Basel/Welcome to Basel!

There is a big fleamarket every Saturday at Petersplatz - what you can find there varies a lot from Saturday to Saturday. But you can always find something

I'm about to go furniture hunting in second hand stores myself and got the tip that Brockenhäuser/Brockis are good places to find some odd pieces of all sorts.
I haven't visit any of these below just yet - so I can't recommend any of them but maybe the addresses in the link can be of some help!
http://www.inserate-basel.ch/brockenhaeuser-basel.html
to find your way around you can use map.search.ch, it also shows tramlines and buses.

In Basel the Salvation army also have an equivalent to "Myrornas" in Sweden:
http://www.brocki.ch/basel/

Well, the good thing with having an IKEA quite close by - is that you always know where to go if you get an instant need for Lingonsylt or Ballerinakakor.

I hope you'll enjoy Basel - it is a nice place!

Pia

Hi Marcus,

I've found some good pieces at Brocanthaus, a used furniture shop in Klein Basel. Take the #8 in the direction of Kleinhunigen and get of at Kaserne. The shop is immediately to your right.

Lots of junk and also some pretty pricey items, but we've found some nice things for a fraction of even IKEA prices.

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Marcus, as others have said, there are borcanthaus or brocantstubbe's all over the Basel metro area. When we moved here we were able to furnish an entire home with impressive used furniture. The stock in these places changes day by day, so a visit on a routine basis may allow you to find a great piece of used furniture really cheap. Remember, this is Swiss used furniture, so it is usually is in pretty good shape, even with all the originall keys for the drawers (which no one probably locked....). Delivery could be an issues (if you have no auto) but something can always be arranged - just ask. Although I love IKEA, especially when I need it 'today', it is much more enriching and fun to cruise these wonderful places. Where? A really huge one in Muttenz, on main road going east out of the town center; HIOB in Munchenstein, Tram 10, stop Birseckstrasse (smallish, but close to my home); and for sure many others. Happy hunting.

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Hi,
When I think of second hand in Basel, I would check online at...

www.ebay.de (for items in neighboring Lörrach)
www.ebay.ch (do a search with zip code and 10-km radius)
www.ricardo.ch

And go to have a look in person, if I like the pics.

Best wishes,

Russell

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Hi,
Check out this page
http://www.inserate-basel.ch/brockenhaeuser-basel.html

I would first of all recommend Brocki in Dreispitz (take tram nr 10 or 11 to "Dreispitz". If you come from the city you just cross the street and then you see a big sign, Easy to find). Dont know exact adress

Another good one is Lazarus (see the list)

good luck

Re: Second hand in Basel? Furniture etc

Getting a 404 on that link that is suppose to provide all the locations of Brocki.

But to answer the question about exact address of the Brocki in Dreispitz that everyone says is the best, I have found the following:

From their website:

We also have a second Brocki in Basel. It is located in the three-cornered hat on Leimgrubenweg 9. In a huge 2500m2 location, you will find a mega-selection.

Tram No. 10/11, Bus No. 36
Opening times: Mon-Fri 10.00-18.30 / Sa 10.00-16.00
