Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

We had to wait for nearly 3 weeks before our nameplates were sent over, so until then, not wanting to miss any mail, we did stick our name on paper with sticky tape on the mailbox, as well as in the lift...didn't hear any complaints luckily!

Right.... so if you rent through an agency all of this is should be done automatically for you and you get a bill plus the name plates in the mail...
The agency sent me the forms for this along with all the other stuff I had to fill in prior to moving in. I got to choose exactly what I wanted on the nameplates (I chose first initial plus surname, rather than the full name). The plates arrived within a day or two of moving in.

Quote:
Your problem is that if you do this yourself, you may need a sample so that your new plates will be identical to the others in your apartment block. If she has referred you to a company, then use them as they would have a template for the name tags associated with your specific address.
As a case in point, when I moved apartments I took the name plates with me, and they didn't even fit at the new place.

Charges for name plates - normal?

I've just received an invoice from the management company for my apartment block - for the name plates on the post box and outside the door of the apartment - CHF 60.

Is this a legitimate charge?

The day I took over the apartment I went home for a week and when I got back there was a little plastic bag outside the door of my apartment with these name plates in it - I didnt request them, so I assumed this was part of the deal with my lease - and if I had known they were going to charge me I would have just got some sellotape and stuck my name over the old plates.

Thanks,
Claire

PS: I did search and couldnt find anything related, sorry if I missed something...

Re: Management Company Charges

This is normal and it has been covered before. Sticking hand-written signs with tape over the post box is not the way it's done here...

Ok thanks for the clarification, maybe I should mention that to my neighbours who have hand-written signs beside their buzzers...

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

I am not so worried about having our name on the plates on the mail box, rather the fact that I can slip my hand in and pull the letters out. If I can get my own, anyone can which would leave us open to identity theft. As I have mentioned before, my husband has his stolen in England and the person who took his identity murdered somebody. Luckily for us we were in Tunisia when the offence happened and had passport stamps to prove it. Very worrying time all round.

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

Seems I'm reviving a thread that's now several years old.

What's interesting is that in this particular thread, I've seen quotes of 20 CHF and 60 CHF for name plates. A friend told me to expect a bill of around 250 CHF for name plates, so it seems that either prices have seriously gone up over the years or he got ripped off.

I'll see what my bill is like after we move. Can anyone else share what they've paid recently?

Few weeks ago, we paid 36 CHF for 2 name plates : a small iron one for the ring bell and a larger plastic one for the mail box.

I asked my landlord how to get them but he took care of it.So I don't know the process. But the bill came from BRANDER AG in Steinmaur if it can help someone.

Recently moved. Post lady complained I had no name tag. Cue post-it with name on and she was happy! I quite like the rustic look

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

Creeps me out to have to put my name on the door ever since my friend in Germany almost had her door busted down by an ex when he was able to get her new building address from the Rathaus. When he showed up, someone let him into the building and he went straight to her door

In the US, it's by apartment number so you can maintain privacy. Once you get into a building, you may or may not see names on the individual apartment doors.

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

We have a great landlord - he didn't charge for the name labels on the letterbox, doorbell or the internal door to our apartment. He said they were free, would not even come out of the deposit. He also said, "Have a great ten years or more!" after all the papers had been signed, and keys handed over.

CHF 250.00 for name labels? Are they made of solid platinum or something?

One thing I like about the names instead of numbers is that I don't receive other people's mail any more.

As for the German friend being attacked by her ex, sounds like the name on the door was not the most relevant point - as he got the address from the Rathaus, and was let in by another person ... the biggest problem was the name on the internal door to her apartment!

My Landlord did not charge me for it either, and was all made and ready before I moved it.

10 chf - I took it to a shoe repair place and they engraved. Because they messed up and took an extra week to do it, they gave me a discount.

There is nothing to say that you have to let the landlord do it - 250 is a complete rip off. You should ask for the plates/specifications and do it yourself.

ISTR paying around chf150 when we last moved, but that included labels on the door, the lobby bell-push, the letterbox, the outside (for garage) bell-push and two large plates (reprinted over the old ones) for the underground parking spaces. So 250 sound like a rip off in your case, yes.

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

In a previous place, the landlord never bugged me about it ( and never did anything about it as well ).

I signed up at Post CH ( Organizer ) and had free pre-printed address labels ( around 30 pieces for free ) sent to my then current address as part of informing Die Post that I am changing addresses.

I stuck them onto my letterbox and door, never did have an issue ( the remainder were used for laptops. baggage tags etc. )

I *think* this is the line that says the tenant pays for this cost, but whether it's my responsibility, I'm now unsure. "Der Mieter übernimmt die Kosten für die Anfertigung einheitlicher Namensschilder an Sonnerie, Briefkasten, Lift, Wohnungstüre usw."

My friend said they do it and will bill me. But based on all the helpful stuff I've just read in this thread, I will email them and ask if I can start the process now to get it done myself.

Edit: I checked and they do it and bill me. Will see what the damage is. :/

Re: Names on the letterbox in apartment buildings!

We paid 100 chf for our name plate on the letter box. They asked my husband what names we want to put on our letter box then my husband gave our names. He thought that was for free but a few days after we received the name plate, we got a bill for 100 chf.
