The thing is that in my opinion, the time that you spend on going to work and back home, is the worst spent time in life time spent useless and irreversible. I will be bringing my car with me but I like better the idea of going to work with my bicycle. That is why I'm look for a place closer to work. But if most of you are saying not to do it ....

OK, Bumpliz is not that ugly, it is rather dull - full of all sorts of industrial venues (warehouses etc.) and lacking nice places where people meet - bars, cafes...There are some awful restaurants though!
Also, quite multicultural but not in an interesting way, I could only feel the negative sides of different cultures - cars driving with loud music and windows down, gangsta outfits and haircuts.

Zuzi, I have tried to reply to your PM but I get an automatic response you have chosen not to receive PMs, maybe check your settings?

Well I'd rather not have that as a backround while walking my dog :-)

Closer to work is good. However, keep in mind that the commuting experience here is much different from what it is in your home country. I would hate to commute to work there; here it is absolutely fine. My commute by public transport, in Basel, is 20 minutes, but I have gained a much nicer area to live in. I could also bike to work if I chose to.

I think you are confusing Bümpliz with Bethlehem. From the street views you can see on Bottigenstrasse there is little grafiti, nor people hanging around, nor fast food outlets.

The road from Bümpliz post office going west towards Bottigen is quite pleasant. The tram no. 7 goes along Bottigenstrasse right through town, to the east of Bern. Near to Bottigenstrasse is open country and woods, I see no point at all in living in Lorraine, nor Weisenbuhl, nor Kirchenfeld. None of these areas are nearer to her work, and none of these areas are dog friendly.

I think you have all unsettled her now, by confusing Bethlehem with Bümplitz. (I lived in Looslistrasse 35, Bern- Bethlehem for 2 years, and 3 people were murdered in my street, so I do know a bit about this area!)

You could be right - I used to live in Bumplitzstrasse, just at the junction with Bethlehemstrasse, not sure which area it formally is.
However, I have never had any safety concerns there, I was running in the wood at late hours, always leaving my car on the street etc.

Also, Bern is such a small town - any of the areas mentioned are within 30 min. of commute to Bumplitz by bike, car or public transport.

Re: Bern - city or nearby

I happen to live in Zollikofen.

I think that the reputation of Zollikofen might not be very good. One reason perhaps: in cheaper areas (close to railway and Bern strasse) there are lots of immigrants (perhaps not earning too much).
At the same time there are nicer areas which I find nice place to live. Again there are not so many foreigners and it might be more difficult to settle in to the community (I guess it is the same in most of the places outside of Bern).

Connections to Bern are good (up to 20 minutes depending the region of Zollikofen). I is easy to bike to Bern. Several forest for dog walking. Good shopping options (including, big shopping center Shoppyland ~5km) etc.

Ittigen

I guess more or less the same as Zollikofen. I feel quite cosy there.

Ostermundigen

Not so cosy. Lots of big block houses.

would you say than that the area around Alpenstrasse is ok? the main thing I look at is secure area and near area where I can go for a run with my dog.

Re: Bern - city or nearby

I find it safe and this is a rather nice region. Two forests are about 1 km away. In addition, as it is in the end of the Zollikofen various village roads are available to dog walking.
PS! Depending which floor or location you might have a splendid view to the Alps.
