Nameplates- who pays?

I searched through the forums and found no consensus. Hence this question:

Who (landlord/tenant) should foot the expense for the nameplate on the mailbox & entry phone in an instance where this charge is not mentioned in the lease?

Answers, experiences, all welcomed!

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

Our landlord paid for ours but I don't think that this is the norm. I believe the tenant normally has to pay.

Thanks all- Tenant: Landlord seems to be 2:1 so far. My dilemma is that the landlord has offered to pay, but I really wouldn't want him to if the norm is that the tenant should...

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

A set of 3 might cost Fr 50 to Fr 70 IIRC. If you pay, you can take them with you, they might fit the next apartment.

Even if you don't pay, the landlord won't care if you take them with you as he can't use them

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

If the landlord has offered to pay then he is clearly happy to do so and I don't really see your problem. I would take him up on the offer.

Yeah, because if he prints out your name three times HE OWNS YOUR SOUL!!!!!!

i.e. what? Let them pay. Are you mad?

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

Our landlord paid, and paid to have them redone a second time even (we hadn't thought to tell him the first time to add my son's last name as it is different.) We stuck a paper on it when we moved in and again when we realized he wasn't getting mail. The landlord never said a peep - both times the note was simply replaced within a few weeks.

Since your landlord is offering to pay, I don't see any reason to do it yourself. My experience here is that if someone offers something, they mean it.

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

Don't fuss, the landlord probably does it himself because he uses the same company each time so that they are all consistent..

And yes, you can take them with you when you move...

Tenant pays
I had to pay for mine in Basel, while renting from a company but in our current house our landlord paid (private rent)

Re: Nameplates- who pays?

For consistency across the other apartments, my landlord arranged all the name plates for me and paid.

Then cross-charged me via a pink slip just when I thought I'd got them for free.
