Re: Affordable fitted carpet in Zurich!

A fitted carpet is quite expensive, as the grippers need to be placed around the edges of the room and then fixed to the floor. Then the carpet is stretched and fitted to the grippers.

As you would need to meet the landlords ideas on carpets when you leave the apartment, I think you should ask his permission before you start.

However, there are single large carpets for sale at IKEA, which don't require fitting, and you take them away easily when you leave.

Re: Affordable fitted carpet in Zurich!

Thank you.

I'd contact the landlord, of course.

Ideally I would prefer fitted carpet but yes, a big normal carpet would be the best available solution

thanks again!

Be warned - the landlord may give permission to fit carpet - but they will almost certainly want you to remove it when you leave - and ensure the original floor is returned to its original state.

Just buy rugs!!

or, glue a carpet tile to each of your feet.

Then, when you walk around your flat, you'll feel like you're walking on carpet everywhere.

Re: Affordable fitted carpet in Zurich!

Foam back carpet is probably the best solution, no need for smooth edge/grippers or clue.

Re: Affordable fitted carpet in Zurich!

It is possible to have wall to wall carpet installed in a room in a rented flat. It is done with double sided tape.

A professional carpet installer can do this for you. Some shops where carpet is sold, such as Jumbo, will give you the name of an installer they work with.

What type of floor are you trying to cover and why must it be fitted carpet?

Some double sided tape is sold as non-marking (designed for temporary use).
Other tape is not guaranteed to be like this.

Also, if you have a room which is wider than the width of the carpet you are going to need a seam which is really not ideal with tape. I have seen carpet sold in wider widths in Germany (for example at OBI).

Lastly, if you have underfloor heating, you need to be sure the carpet you buy is suitable for this. Otherwise you could have big problems (carpet backing sticks to the floor due to the heat).

As others have suggested, you can buy area rugs. But to each his own. Just best to be informed before you make the investment in wall-to-wall carpet.
