Travelling to Geneva daily from Annecy

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Just trying to get a better idea of where to reside for 2 months while interning in Geneva. How difficult do you think it will be to daily commute to Geneva from Annecy.

Are you allowed to live in France?

You'll also need a car, there's no public transport system between the two catering for commuters.
There's the odd bus now and again I believe, but nothing like often enough for what you're planning.

Re: Travelling to Geneva daily from Annecy

Hi
Yes I'm allowed to live in France. The landlord that I was thinking about renting from said that there is a bus that regularly goes from Annecy to Geneva and many people commute back and forth. I assume this isn't true then. I did see online that the bus T2 goes from Annecy to Geneva. I assume this isn't the regular public transportation then.

Re: Travelling to Geneva daily from Annecy

Depends on what side of Geneva you are trying to get to. If you are driving, figure at least an hour each way. If you actually have to cross the city by car at rush hour, add another 1 hour each way. I don't know how you would manage it by public transport. I'm pretty sure you would need to change busses at the border. It might not even be possible to do it without a car, depending on what sort of work schedule you have.

+1 to what Tom said; you might want to make sure that you are actually allowed to live in France and work in Switzerland. Of course you can be in the country for 90 days as a tourist, so if your 60 day internship is unpaid, you might fly under the radar as a tourist. Not saying that's the right way to do it, Just saying...

Re: Travelling to Geneva daily from Annecy

There are a few regular buses every day from bus station to bus station. There is a new commuter bus service from Annecy to Plan les Ouates, 3 in the morning and three in the evening.

Your idea's practicality all depends on where you are in Annecy & where you work in Geneva. Your best bet is probably car sharing; e.g. with me - I work in Meyrin. We leave Annecy at 6:45. Check covoiturage.fr for other possibilities.

Re: Travelling to Geneva daily from Annecy

It's going to depend whereabouts in Annecy you are, and also where you're trying to get to in Geneva. There are some buses but looking at this timetable most routes are only once an hour or less. The first on the link below for example (T73) leaves from the Gare Routière in Annecy to the Gare Routière in Geneva at 5:36, 8:50 and then not again until 12:16.... taking a good hour each time.
Other routes look like they're more frequent but not more than hourly, so you're in trouble if you miss it.

Anyway, here's a link to the coaches that do the trip, they're run by a local coach company and not the public system as such. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the link. Yea even if I was to take the bus everyday it would be ridiculously expensive. I realize it's not a good idea.

Hi there,

Recently moved for a temporary contract in Geneva. I do not have to be Geneva based daily - maybe just a couple of days a week. Looking to commute from Annecy since my partner might be getting a position there.

Do you still commute and open to car-sharing?

Becky
