Re: Ikea - delivery time?

Well, I have stressed myself enough about this issue being in THE EXACT situation like you, moving to a new apartment on Monday with absolutely no furniture. Today I went to Ikea in Rothenburg, picked a bedroom and a kitchen table with chairs and a lot of small stuff, and delivery will be in 2 days!

The shipping service guy showed me a screen with available time slots, I could even select the delivery time within 3 hours intervals n any day (so I could choose to deliver at a later date if I wanted).

Reading about that for a few days and with my own experience I conclude that in-store delivery speed depends on:

1- Availability in stock (I picked ALL of my stuff from the self service area).
2- How many people at the store, in the day you go, will use the delivery service (at Saturday, 12:00pm I was the only one in the delivery area, took a rest in a nearby area for about 30 minutes and saw nobody else ordering delivery service).

I wish you every bit of luck, I know how stressful this may be, but I know it will work out great for you too!

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

I'm in Geneva and the cost for delivery was 99chf no matter if I had 1 cheap item in the online 'cart' or many many items amounting to over 1000chf (I tried, just as a test).

They gave me a date approx. 1 month out and it was pretty much spot on. A few days before they called me to say they could deliver 1 day before that actual date around 3-5pm. However, on that morning I got a call that they could deliver much earlier in the day. Luckily I was at home.

It was indeed a subcontractor and the guy said that they work for other furniture stores too, not just Ikea.

Another time before I made an order but changed my mind about some things. If you order online and are not satisfied with the delivery date being too far off you can cancel the order if you call them soon after.

You could also try other Swiss furniture companies such as Migros or Coop, Interio or Fly. I think they deliver quicker.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

I am in Geneva and the closest store is less than 5 km from my appartment. Last week I bought new furniture for the appartment (couch, tables chairs, matress, etc around 1500 CHF). They offer two delivery options, next day or in three weeks, both have the same cost (!!?? yes this is true) 12% of the cost (with a minimum of 99 CHF). They delivered next day as promised. I did buy evertything in the store, I do not know how does it work if you buy over the internet.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

Ok, I already went to Ikea Rothenburg, and would like to share my experience, maybe it's useful for somebody else
I had a list of items to buy, used the ikea.ch online "merkliste", basically you can add items to a list that you can later print, there's a small picture of each item, the code, and the shelve / isle to pick it up from
I went to the customer service part with the list (first thing I did), and the was lucky to find one guy (out of 3) that could actually speak english
the guy told me that he could not deliver any small items, just big or bulky ones.
one funny side anecdote: they included a bed sheet set in the delivery, but not an ironing table. how a sheet set is bulkier than a ironing table on their logic is incomprehensible to me
anyway, back on the main topic. I had to manually buy the rest of the stuff (mainly dishes, cutlery, pans and bowls, etc) and take it to the cash. he also gave me a separate invoice for the rest of the stuff, to be delivered within 2 weeks. That was the earliest delivery date possible. He let me chose between friday and saturday, but not the time of that, for that they will call me on the same week to arrange it (or just to inform me about which time they're coming, not sure about that).

so, bottom line:

- 2 weeks delivery for 100% stocked items that you could directly pick from the shelve and get it right there (if you're lucky to have a car, or want to rent one of their vans), to a less than 20 minute ride location.
- they don't deliver anything smaller than a chair (with some weird exceptions)

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

Hi all, we're going to order a bunch of stuff for delivery to our new place, but want it for next week. Based on this thread, this is not going to be possible. Has anyone ordered online and collected it themselves? In which case, was this much faster than getting it delivered?

Before placing the order you can check the inventory status of the items you want at the store where you might want to pick them up. If they are in stock you shouldn't have any problems. Delivery takes much longer to arrange. If you plan to collect on a Saturday and need an Ikea van, They are heavily booked on weekends.

Yeah, we can see what's available (almost all of it, in fact). If we do pick up, we'll hire a van locally for a half day. IKEA in Lyssach is only half an hour away.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

That went easier than expected. Ordered a bunch of stuff online for delivery and was able to choose a delivery date of 16.09 in the afternoon, i.e. the day after we move in.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

My experience seems different from other posters. I have done this two ways:

1. Ordered online
Items were small (bedlinnen etc) and were delivered in 3 days
2. Went to the store (Rothenburg)
I walked around adding all the numbers of what I wanted to their usual list. Then I paid to have items delivered (shelves, bed, etc) and they arrived in 2 days and it was a "flat fee" of 100CHF.

I think the delivery was fixed at 100CHF and would have been within 24 hours if I had bought the stuff before 2pm the day before.

They deliver based on a "zone" system, so In live in Zug and I think it was within their 2 hour drive zone, I think that affected the price. It was all certainly very simple and very quick!

You can also go to a store and hire a van from them, but by the time you have paid for that, and petrol, and returned it and got a train home it would cost the same as delivery.

Very pleased customer
