Ikea - delivery time?

Hi!
I've read the other posts, but some of them are very old (2007, etc) so maybe I can get some more updated experiences

What can you say about IKEA delivery times? We're moving from a temporary appartment to the one we're gonna rent, starting April.
On Ikea's website, it says that they charge 12% of the cost of goods (up to a maximum of 500CHF), but doesn't say anything about delivery times. If we go next week, is it possible to say "bring us the stuff next week"? Or do they take longer than that (or maybe it's just delivery same day?
Thanks!

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

There was a thread last week about Ikea delivery around Neuchatel but a lot of the info on it is relevant to general Ikea deliveries.

It depends if you are in the delivery catchment area when it will be either within a week or up to 6 weeks, or thereabouts.

it's difficult to know which one is the real one?

If you order online it will take 6-8 weeks. If you go in store you can set a delivery date that is in 2-3 weeks.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

My idea is to go to the physical store, buy all the stuff, then set a delivery date
If in that case it's maximum 3 weeks then it's acceptable, otherwise I'll have to sleep in the floor xD

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

Listen. Both were the real one. We don't make stuff up here. (Well not all the time).

I placed two deliveries, one in October 2013 and one in November 2013. At the Pratteln store where the town I live in is in their delivery zone 2.

The first delivery took 4 weeks, the second took 8 weeks.

When I placed the deliveries , I was given an indicative date that was roughly 4 weeks away.

All I can tell you is that my experience is that they do not keep to their indicative dates.

Voilà

PS both of them were orders placed in the store

Others have had different experiences.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

this is maybe another question but, what the hell do they do 4 weeks????
they have the stuff there, the normal situation would be for them sending stuff the same day, or the next day...

I don't think it's to do with the supply or stock. I think it's more to do with building up a delivery list. There's no point in sending a van out on a 100km round trip with one customer's Expedit shelving unit when they could wait a couple of weeks (or 4) and deliver to 8 or 9 customers.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

well, I'll be living in Luzern and planning to go to the closest Ikea (Rothenburg)
I hope they don't take ages to drive a couple of km, but as someone said, this is switzerland... land of "efficiency"

I bought everything physically in the store, also from Pratteln, and pushed the big items I wanted Ikea to deliver to the counter where you can set up delivery time. I was able to get everything delivered within a week. This was in 2012 summer. If you order from the store, it will take weeks to deliver.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

I had stuff delivered from the IKEA in Aubonne to my place in Lausanne twice in 2013 and both times everything was delivered the following day. In both cases they told me "we can bring the stuff tomorrow or in 2 weeks," so maybe I was just lucky. As you see, delivery times can differ greatly based on unknown (to me) factors.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

Ikea is a franchise. Also Swedish in origin. So I don't understand why people are blaming how fast the Swiss move or not when each location is franchise driven by foreigners.

Re: Ikea - delivery time?

I've lived in Spain for several years and my experience with Ikea there is that they usually deliver within the same day, or the following
And it's the same swedish Ikea as everywhere else, so that's why I find it a bit surprising to hear that things can take 2 weeks or even more to deliver, specially considering we're talking about furniture (something that you usually need right away)
cheers

Not sure about Switzerland, but when we were in the UK, the local(ish) Ikea store used a contractor for the deliveries, which meant that the delivery was, we were told, outside of their control. So, even if it looks like Ikea, smells like Ikea, there is still a chance that you are dealing with Ikea contractors, and not the big Swedish boy himself.

We had deliveries within 2 weeks of ordering instore, and other times, delivery taking place within 5 weeks and even one time when the delivery was scheduled for a thursday but the items actually came in 2 days earlier!

So, point is, a lot of it outside of (y)our control when it comes to delivery, except if you hire a van and bring your stuff home. Even then, there is a chance that the item you want is not available instore, even if you checked on the stock availability earlier.

I wish you good luck with your Ikea shopping.

Unknown to many, they also now have an option whereby you can pay for express picking and shipping in around 3 days. Adds around another 10-15% to the cost though.

It's the same here in my experience.

When we ordered a new bed in store recently they said 2-4 weeks for delivery but we had a call the following week asking if they could deliver the next day ( ie only 5 days later). The delivery was made by one of the local removal companies in one of their trucks so I guess it depends of the availability of the delivery services and how many deliveries they have in the area as they tend to group them together as much as possible.
My only gripe was that they said between 3 and 5 pm on the phone and they actually turned up at 2. Luckily I arrived home at just after 2 but I would have been pissed off if they'd driven away again.

Even if you order at the store it doesn't necessarily mean that the goods will be dispatched from that store so the in store stock levels are not an indicator of delivery time.

The express delivery is only available for deliveries within a certain radius of the store. We wouldn't be eligible for it even if we wanted to use the option as our nearest stores are both too far away.

The easiest way to be sure to get the stuff when you want it is to go to the store, pick up the stuff yourself and rent one of their vans to drive it home yourself.

Already mentioned that in my first post but you have to live in the express delivery area - and Neuchatel is not in the. Lyss store express area nor the Aubonne area.

Clumsy Maman's experience is exactly my experience over 4 orders placed in store ( pratteln) and 2 orders placed on the internet (over the last 5 months). One order arrived earlier than the date notified (even though inbetween time I had been given a later date!!) and 1 order arrived 1 day later and of the 2 internet orders, one was roughly on time (a couple of days out) and the other was 4 weeks later than the indicative date.

In all cases they were not Ikea vans but subcontractors from different places - Olten, another one from somewhere Bern direction. As Delémont is not near any of these places, it was hardly a surprise that I was largely dependent on their drop off and pick up timetable as to when they were in the area.

It wasn't brilliant service but in comparison to doing it myself (impossible) and in comparison to what I paid Interio to deliver a bench and some chairs, it seemed fair value.
