Even the number of kids passing matura needs to be taken with a grain of salt. It doesn't mean the schools in the other areas are worse. Many families choose apprenticeships over Matura, as they are well respected. Expats and academically educated parents tend to want the same educational path for their kids as they themselves experienced. Areas where more of those live, tend to be areas where more kids attend Gymnasium.

Schools are not rated in Switzerland unlike in many other countries. Public Schools are all generally excellent. Individual teachers may be better than others, as is the case anywhere.
