Re: Air source Heat pumps

Neighbours have an air pump a few metres away and I can't hear it except in summer if I'm in my garden and almost looking at it, trying to hear it etc when they might have the floor cooling on. I don't see the problem, it's better for the environment and maybe your wallet as heating oil (diesel) could be taxed more and more in the future.

Also check for any subsidies available, they tend to be for replacement in some cantons rather than newbuilds but worth exploring.

Can I ask how your experience with your heat pump turned out?
I started my 17KW one just 14-days ago and it's great - like a you would expect from the fridge.
COP of 6 at +7C and 4 at 0C is impressive.

Mine cost 34K, but I got a subsidy refund of around 5K (for a net investment of 29K give or take).

Indeed.

I recently installed an aircon unit in a small rental place I recently bought in another (cold) country which will provide hot air in winter and cold in summer (if ever needed), costed less than 5k.

Why do people not install such systems here? I reckon for my two floors house one of those on each floor might work just fine, but instead I am offered a > 50K solution... will need to learn more about all this in the spring.

Re: Air source Heat pumps

For the end user there is huge difference in comfort between "central heating system" and local units that spew out fast moving hot air. I mean, also a wood oven is very cheap, heats the room extremely fast and even have an nice aesthetic and nostalgic factor but no one will choose it as the main heating system in 21st century.
Air-cons are similar in that they are cheap, but they are also noisy, unpleasant and ugly. Acceptable maybe in trailer camps.

It's quite different. It doesn't move hot air in a single room, it brings heat into an exchanger that heats and pumps warm water into the sub-floor piping. It does it at an extremely efficient rate, very quietly, and is capable of heating the entire house. A simple reverse aircon would do it noisily, less efficiently, in a single room, and would kill our electric bill.

Re: Air source Heat pumps

I wonder what current costs of ~10kW air pump installation are (without underfloor heating) in Switzerland?

So do I.

I guess you‘re only going to find out by asking an installer for a quote. Expect CHF30,000 plus...
