Apartments Viewing in Basel

Hi, I will be moving to Basel this week and would like to seek for advice if anyone know how to go about in arranging for apartments viewing?

My company will arrange for temporary accommodation for my first month and I have planned to arrive 2 days before commencement of my job to look around and to get familiar with the area, and, hopefully to get a feel of the suitable location to live. Thanks!

Cheers,
Sut (moving from Asia)

Check if your company has a relocation person to help with the house hunting.

Re: Apartments Viewing in Basel

Hi Sut,

I would recommend you make use of the forum search function, as the whole topic of which are the best areas of Basel to live in etc has been gone over a few times. Also, there are many posts on the general subject of looking for an apartment.

Hopefully this will enable you to have more specific questions once you have read around the subject.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Apartments Viewing in Basel

First, get a good feel for the area before you start to look and talk to your co-workers. If your company has a person to help, that is great. In our situation, once I narrowed down the areas we wanted to live, I contacted the rental agencies or landlords directly through the web sites like Homegate.ch and Immoscout24 and others. They contacted me back by e-mail and I set up an appt that way.
Most agent representatives that we met at each place spoke good or a little english. I used the English Forum searches a lot for contract advice, locations, etc. and of course google translate until I got some german under my belt. We had no trouble finding and getting a place.

Re: Apartments Viewing in Basel

There is no point looking for an apartment until you are here snd have had chance to get your bearings.

A good place to start might be homegate.ch to get an idea of the market.

For anyone to really help, you need to post a few more details as to what you are looking for, budget, are you bringing a family, etc etc.

Cheers,
Nick

Re: Apartments Viewing in Basel

Most areas are fine and Basel is small and easy to get around by tram or bike. I would just plug in the details to Homegate or comparis of what size appartment you want and how much you are willing to pay, to see what is available. There is always some minimum details given on the advertisement. eg nearest supermarket, school, public transport etc.
