household insurance - how to document what is in

Hi,
I have fairly standard insurance for household (flat). The girl I am subletting the appartment from was robbed once before, having lost cca 10k worth of stuff (she didn't have insurance back then).
My question is, in an event of robbery, how will I prove to insurance company the worth of equipment being stolen? Electronics & good bike are probably most interesting for thieves (plus car parked nearby).
Should I make some photos?
Thank you for info

Re: household insurance - how to document what is in

Well, best thing to do would be to ask the insurance whether they need anything like this and what sort of documentation they would accept.

Whatever answer you get here is likely to be different from one company to another.

I for one never done anything like that.
