Cheap and better place to live between Zug and Zuirch Uetlihof

Hi all,

My wife is working in Zürich Uetlihof and soon I will be changing my job to Zug.
What is the best place to live in between Zug and Uetlihof or near by both places. We would like that at least one of us is close to the house.
Your recommendations and feedback are appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Cheap and better place to live between Zug and Zuirch Uetlihof

My recommendation is to live in Zug / Baar and for her to commute to Zuerich Uetlihof. This is first of all will save on the taxes front as Zug has lower taxes than Zuerich and secondly will allow one of you at least to be conveniently located closer to home / office.

For other theoretical locations between Zug and Zuerich I'm sure you can use google maps and sbb.ch but all of those locations will be part of Zuerich so it's better to just stay where you are in Zuerich if this is the case and just commute to Zug every day.

I don't know - why don't you call???

Your original post is garbage - there is no BEST place - there is only the place that BEST suits your requirements. Being that you haven't said what they are (apart from 1 person being close to the office) how on earth are we able to give good advice???

If you annual members of the Zurich Zoo - being close to the Zoo might be an important factor for you - or you may have children and what a child friendsly area - you may play golf? You might travel a lot and want to be near the airport. Wintersports might be the most important thing for you - so a quick trip to the mountains might be worth it - or one person may drive to work? You give an exact location of one persons work - but not the others? You don't give an indication of maximum commuter time? Rooms requried? Etc etc etc

And to top it all, you don't even give a budget.

Zug is only going to work out well if you are earning sufficient to balance out the reduced tax/higher rent situation - which may not be the case.

We don't have children and we are not regular Zoo goers.
I live in Baden as the location says.
we need 3.5 BHK with 2000CHF max budjet.
We dont do wintersport and dont play Golf.
One person can drive to work.
Max commuter time: 45min one way.

are you happy with my answers.
You dont need to use Garbage.

If commuting by car, you can be more flexible about locations in Zug, preferably a place with close access to the main motorway junction near Steinhausen. So these would be places like Steinhausen and Cham (see this junction on map here) The further you move away from that junction the more likely you will face delays in the morning rush hour and when returning home in the evening. Driving from Steinhausen to Uetlihof will be around 25-30 minutes with little to no traffic.

I personally don't like to have to drive every day so a place near Zug itself or Baar is better suited to commuting by public transport to Uetlihof (S24 + change in Enge to Tram 13) which should take around 41 minutes.

You dont need to use Garbage.
For the areas between the 2 locations:
-1098 properties
- 211 are within budget
- 90 of which have 3.5 rooms or more.

Se list

Parking at UH is expensive so I'd skip that idea - especially as your rental budget is only 2,000.

The Sihl valley is generally cheaper (Leimbach, Adliswil, Langnau) but is best if the driver is going to Zug.

The Albis valley (Affoltern, Bonstetten) is good to Zug but the commute to UH won't be fantastic as the train loops in via Altstetten.

Staying along the lake is good to UH (change at Enge) but the drive over to Zug can get busy through Hirzel.

Did you know that there is a bus going from Affoltern/Bonstetten to Sihlcity?

In terms of time there is very little in it compared to getting the S9 to Altstetten and then the 89 across. If you are quick off the S9 you can get a seat on the 89. I suspect the 200 gets really quite busy in the morning.

20 mins to drive to Sihl City on a clear run using the new highway from Affoltern Am Albis. About 15 mins to Zug using the new highway the other direction.
