Regardless of the tax evasion.. I'd be more concerned about other potential abuses of trust, like they could take out credit, they could sublet the sublet room to somebody else who could do the same and take more credit etc etc ..
As the person actually living there, you might be able to clear your name eventually but it's your door that's gonna be knocked when people come calling. You could have a lot of explaining to do.

You sound a bit like one of those socialists who likes to have more than others, but can't stand when some also do better than you do... | | | | | Actually, I changed my mind. I think it is a brilliant idea and I definitely think you should do it. Anyone want to second me on this?

SZ taxes are set to rise, especially for those whose incomes would previously have made a move to SZ a tax efficient strategy - which sort of puts your whole business case into question. | This user would like to thank meloncollie for this useful post: | |

Come on everybody - let's all go to Switzerland where we can cheat, lie and fiddle until our heart's content. We don't need all this legal hassle, we didn't at home so we don't here.

| | Re: Renting out a room as PO box | Quote: | | | | | I moved to Schwyz recently and have several spare rooms in my flat.
Was thinking of renting them out for say 500chf a month with the understanding that the renter would not actually ever stay there and would really just use it to maintain a swiss address for tax purposes while living abroad. It would be a good deal for both parties.
Any people experienced with this? Any risks related to this for me as a renter? | | | | | A fiduciaire will charge between Chf 50 - 100 for domicilaition, depeding on scope of services required.
You have certain legal obligations being the registered address of a company, beware...... go ask for professional (paid) advice for more details.

Registered there & knowingly not living in canton SZ is tax evasion, illegal.
Registered, but living in canton SZ just at the weekends, is tax avoidance, legal.
(Corrected my errors, thanks).

The most stupid thing you've done, is to post your possible intentions on a public forum (even if your identity is hidden) - what are you hoping for? .... potential customers? ..... good luck with that - every respondent could be a member of Swissie officialdom, out to feel your collar.

Apparently, this idea is not particularly new, though most people are more discreet.
Whilst living in Bäch SZ for two years, our entire apartment building was virtually empty, except for us. The adjacent apartment buildings were also quite vacant. I am not sure if anyone rented out rooms, but they certainly were not permanent, nor semi-permanent residents. It seemed there were a lot of timers on the lights, etc.
We certainly did not fall into this category, but did welcome the savings, in order to pay for INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS....:-)

From a UK perspective, it doesn't matter if he has an address in Switzerland, Timbuktu or Ouagadoudou, if he spends more than 180 days in the UK, he WILL be paying UK Tax.
I presume it is the same for most countries.

This is very important for any UK resident who retires abroad to fully understand the rules especially if they retain a UK home.

I'm sooooo glad I don't earn enough for any of these things to matter in my choice of residence.
I just get to live where I like, without worrying about number of days' residence or any of that complicated stuff: "Shit! It's ten minutes to midnight on August 31st! Best get moving! Say, Tatjana, is there enough juice in the Prius to get us to Rio by morning?"
Sad, sad, sad.
