Housing not speaking french

Hi there,

Speaking French is not my forte. I was wondering if real estate agencies are open to discuss the rental terms in English (when visiting the apartment and calling for informations)?
Reading is not so hard, furthermore when I have doubts I use google translate.
When singning the rental contract, would it be sent to me prior to the signing so I can read it or I can only read it when it is time to sign it?

I would be glad to hear your opinions.

Full contract is mailed for signing.
When I was looking for an apartment a few years ago not speaking French was a disadvantage because many agencies didn't bother to communicate in English.

Just e-mail a few in your area & ask if someone speaks English. The Brolliet site is in English so I would assume they have someone. http://www.brolliet.ch/en/

Depends on the rental agency, you'd have to ask if someone speaks English and could this discussion with you.

I am not sure if they could send you the contract prior to signing (I don't see a problem though) but if they don't and if possible to you, I would suggest you go with a friend who speaks French and read the contract on site, then sign if it is clear.

Re: Housing not speaking french

The rental contract will be in French as if the put it in English, it putrs agency at disadvantage and open to translation errors.

They may be ready to disucss the terms in English, if they are comfortable with this.

It will also depend if you renting a normal appartement at around Chf 3k/month or lake side house at Chf 25k/month

Re: Housing not speaking french

Be very careful- people come on EF again and again- in trouble because they have signed a contract, for a flat, or for a gym, etc, etc, without being able to read or understand it. Never ever sign a contract you do not understand clearly.
