Some Advice Needed

Folks

Would be good to get your advise.

I currently live in Aarau but work in Basel.

Due to late evening meetings and early start in the day, I have rented an appt in Basel to help me manage my commute time. Signed a lease with the renting company.

Is there anything else I need to do in terms of informing the cantonal authorities? Happy to get some advise.

Many thanks

Depends. If you're going to be staying in Basel all week then in theory you can inform your own canton that you'll be doing so and they'll give you a form which you can take to Basel authorities to register as living there during the week.

In practice? Well, we've been officially living in Obwalden for the last seven years, with a house in Alsace and a flat in Basel, where we work, which together account for more nights than in our home gemeinde and it's never caused any problems. We nearly went through with the above procedure just to be able to get a Basel residents' parking card, but then circumstances changed. But we may do so in the future.

I don't know, apart from parking and the like, if there's any advantage in doing so, nor do I know if it's legally required, but as I say, it doesn't seem to matter very much in practice either way.
