Re: tips where to live in Basel

I think you need to give more info..
Do you specifically want to live close to Basel eg like the Muttenz or Bottmingen etc. Or is anywhere in Baselland OK? eg further from Basel like Sissach?
House or appartment?
Near public transport?
Rural or Suburban?
Location of jobs?
etc

Re: tips where to live in Basel

basically looking for nice residential areas with gardens and swimming pools etc, relatively close to Basel-city and to the main railway station. Also should have good public transportation. Proximity to airport doesn’t make a difference

on few forums on the net they recommended areas like Oberwil, Reinach, Bruderholz, Riehen, Binningen, Therwil, Dornach

Also recommended to avoid the following areas – Claragraben, St Johann, Kleinhueningen, Klybeck, Rosental, Allschwil, Breite, Iselin

assuming some of the above areas would fall within Basel-stadt so those would automatically get ruled out, as we can only live in Basel-Land

Re: tips where to live in Basel

Riehen and Bruderholz are in Basel Stadt.
I think the main complaint about Alschwil is that airplanes fly over (between 7 and 22h).
Alscwhil, Binningen, Bottmingen, Birsfelden and Münchenstein are the closest Baselland gemeinde to the Basel SBB. Muttenz is also quite close and has its own train station.
Never lived in any myself but all seem nice enough areas to me.

Dornach is not Kanton Basel Land, it's Solothurn. But just next to Dornach is Arlesheim, which is in BL and also a nice place to live and complies with your wishes.
Reinach is a little bigger than the other villages you listed.
Hope you'll find a nice place to stay in the end!

This requirement list is still pretty general - so all the recommended areas you mention (in BL) would fit the bill. All are on main tram lines (10 and 11) and get you into the city quickly.

In reality, all BS and the surrounding BL communes are pretty compact- a circle tour of the two valleys by bike (SBB, Binningen, Bottmingen, Oberwil, Therwil, Reinach, Munchenstein, Dreispitz, SBB) is a leisurely one hour at most. A little longer for me, but I stop at the SBB for beer and some people watching.

Good luck.

Re: tips where to live in Basel

Try Pratteln, it has main train station and also tram number 14 goes there. It's also close to some nice hilly areas with good views.

You can also use the Pratteln train station to go to Rheinfelden for shopping in Germany to give bigger bang on your strong CHF.
