Moving to Zurich before official start date - possible to find somewhere to rent?

Hi all,
I plan on moving to Zurich before my official start date - starting in May but moving in March. Is it possible to find places to rent without actually starting work yet? I've heard there is an issue if you're not actually active at work in Zurich securing a perm rental place to live...?

Presumably you have a work contract. This should be enough to secure an appartment. You need to register within 14 days of moving here and you'll need your work contract for that so you'll have to do that from your temporary address but you'll get an attestation that your permit application is in progress which you can also show to potential landlords.
Unless of course you plan to spend the first couple of months as a tourist in which case you don't need to register but you won't have the permit application letter to show you potential landlords.
You may find that you need to spend a couple of months in temporary accommodation before you actually find a permenant rental depending on which area you're looking in. The Zurich rental market is pretty tough.

Thank you for the quick response. Yes I do indeed have the work contract but says starting in May. I plan on getting the residence permit ASAP so I can start getting the apartment setup, licenses, etc... cheers
