Changing apartment protocol and overlapping days

Now if someone is exiting an apartment to a new one on 1st of April. I am confused on how it exactly works with the days.

The flat needs to be first emptied from furniture (which would go to the new flat, occupied by another tenant, still in his possession until 01.04), cleaned, then inspected by the agency for handover to the new tenant (which should happen 31.03)

Obviously the three processes (moving furniture, cleaning, hand over) cant be done on the same day, but also cant be done earlier than 31.03. So how does it work?

Cheers

Re: Changing apartment protocol and overlapping days

The easiest way is to negotiate an extra week, and pay for the rental for the extra week.

If nobody cooperates and you have no friends to help, you can rent a large enough truck. Load the truck with your stuff on 30th March. Sleep in a hotel. Clean the apartment. Sleep in a hotel. Do handover on 1st April. Do takeover new apartment. Move stuff into new apartment. Return the truck empty.

There will be many people moving on the 1st, so make sure you order and pay for the truck soon!

Re: Changing apartment protocol and overlapping days

Thanks Sbrinz. I had the idea of negotiating one or two days more, however I wanted to know if it is a standard procedure in Switzerland? or the agency people will look at me with open mouths if I ask for it.

Similar to the truck idea, I thought about storing the stuff in transit place, some moving companies offer that, but frankly speaking I were looking to minimize the costs.

If you want to minimise costs you could always sleep in the truck

Re: Changing apartment protocol and overlapping days

pack everything into 1 room (closest to the entrance) on the 30th.

at the same time, have the bathroom and kitchen cleaned (may need to start a bit earlier depending) plus everything except the room with stuff in it.

on the day, have everything moved into the van by 10am. do a final clean on the remaining room.

Re: Changing apartment protocol and overlapping days

Negotiate a few extra days as suggested.
The new tenant may also have similar logistical issues, so it may work out alright for him / her too.
