HA HA HA! You mean I am not going to get a 8 bedroom house with a swimming pool, tennis court, six garages and two acres of land?
Hmmmm, let me think a minute....

I'm going with 'nope'.

You'll certainly get a very nice home, though. You won't be living in a hovel.

Best of luck OP, for what it's worth, it sounds like a great move for you and your family. You'll get used to the red tape soon enough, and hopefully discover a beautiful country with lots to offer, shortly after arrival.

Ignore the naysayers, there are a few too many can'ts on this thread.

Re: Renting if self-employed

Eved, my situation is not much different from yours - also from SA with EU citizenship and non EU spouse (who was not my spouse when I first applied to live in CH). We live in Kilchberg not far from the international school. I also got my permit as self-employed. In our case I had to show landlord (rental company) I had a B-permit and with no Swiss income at the time they wanted to see my bank balance.
Up front payments for rent in our case is 3 months deposit plus first month.
After 5 years in Switzerland I miss SA a lot, but its certainly worth a shot as you say.
