Flat Search in Geneva

Last week i went looking for a flat in Geneva, which i have been doing for years. Another little potter with 30 to forty other people. You get used to it.

I visited three from the same Regie. Today i called them and asked if the flats were still available, yes two of them are.

Wonderful i thought, until the woman said - but you can only apply for one of them. WTF is that?

I can't apply for more than one flat on their books?

I only rang them because i wanted to know if they need just one copy of my documents or three to go with each application.

She said it was the law. I don't believe that.

And why shouldn't i apply for a home with them, numerous times.

If you apply for both and get both, can you rent both apartments?

Re: Flat Search in Geneva

The point was, i cannot apply for numerous apartments from the same Regie, even if i have found the flats on Anibis or Homegate and visited without know which regie the guy was showing his flat to.

I liked both flats, i want to apply for both - but i can't.

Doesn't matter - i won't get either.

I shall take all the documents tomorrow morning and apply for the one i didn't like along with the loads of other people.

I think an application is not necessarily a definite commitment, signing a contract is.

I can only imagine many people apply for more than 1 flat simultanuously but that doesn't mean that they have to rent multiple flats in case more than one flat gets approved at the same time.

The issue is having multiple applications with the same agency will deduct the chances of signing all the apartments they have, giving the same people multiple apartment choice.

It's simple business logic, they need to maximize their chances of people signing for an apartment.

How is that? If they offer me an apartment I'm not obliged to take it. They just offer it to the next person in line. Same as if the offers come from two different agencies.

It's Geneva, they tend to run a whole different set of shady games down there...as in, you have purchase the previous tenant's furniture for x amount of money just so they would "suggest" you to the landlord etc.

Re: Flat Search in Geneva

Exactly - the furniture thing. I started a thread on here a few months ago, the leaving tenants had a piece of paper on their oh so shitty dining room table and we had to put down how much we would pay for the furniture. Then they would decide who to put forward to the Regie. One guy had written 5,000 francs. And they weren't interested in showing their flat - only interested in who signed that paper for their furniture.

Now this. I cannot put my name down for two flats with the same Regie.

Well, you learn something new every day.

Well at least i have a pile of photocopies!!! All up to date and ready to go!!
