I have no idea where you live but there are definitely 'parking on the road' places here. There are different sorts in fact. The white ones that can be used freely for as long as you like, the blue ones that have a time limit and require you to put a blue badge in the windscreen and the blue ones can be used without time restrictions for residents who have obtained a permit from the commune. (residents who live in or near the streets where the blue spaces are located.
In Thalwil, the white ones can also be used freely, but if you regularly park your car there then you have to pay the Nachtparkgebühr, which currently costs 35 CHF/month.

Re: Not so obvious living costs...?

I have never seen one like it in Zurich/Zug but the point is that chances of the OP having one is what, 1%? And is that a year-long solution or just for a few weeks?

The norm is to rent your parking, unless you claim otherwise.

Re: Not so obvious living costs...?

Plenty of on road parking here in Wädenswil, with the same Nachtparkgebühr system as in Thalwil. If you're a resident in Zurich you can also buy a yearly permit to park in your local 'on the road' blue zone spots (see 'Parking Permit for the Blue Zone' here: https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/pd/de/i...s.html#english).
