Different Electricity Rates [Zürich]

For all people who get their electricity bill from the EKZ --> there are different price rates at different times!

"high": Monday to Friday 7am - 8pm and Saturday 7am - 1pm
"low": all other times

That means that electricity in the evening/night and on Sundays costs less than during the day and during the week - which is pretty good to know for energy saving!

EWZ don't sell electricity in Graubünden.

Running dishwasher et al. at night probably saves some bucks.
But if you don't want to get into a fight with your neighbors, I would not recommend vacuuming on Sunday mornings no matter the electricity rate :D

Maybe these are obvious to you, but many people think by using something electrical at night it will be automatically cheaper to run. There are two constrictions,

1. you need to have a suitable electricity meter installed, that can separately measure how much you are using at night. i.e. a meter with two counters, with readings one for day & one for the night.

2. you need to be on the correct electricity supply tariff that will give you the cheaper rate.

So for Zurich would "low" start from 8 or 10 pm?

True. Soswiss, once you have found out which provider is responsible for your electricity (it should say so on your electricity bill, we can't know who your provider is), you can google said company and its website - if it has one - should state "Niedertarif" and "Hochtarif" prices for electricity, the latter being the more expensive time to run electricity than the former.

FYI: Just because someone lives in the same village/city/town/canton as another person, it does not mean that these people have the same electricity provider.

I had rather assumed they were all on the same timezone though, GMT +2

If the Zurich electricity high tariff finishes at 8pm, I thought the low tariff would start at 8pm and not at 10pm....

Different electricity providers don't necessarily have the same timespans for Hoch- and Niedertarif afaik ;)

Obviously. IF. But we do not know which provider Soswiss has, and we do not know when his provider's high tariff ends. So I told him to check out his provider's website. ;)

This is the first time I have heard that the cosy cartel in electricity does not exist. I thought all Swiss cities were under a monopoly supplier. Can you now choose your supplier in Zurich, like you can in the UK?

Re: Different Electricity Rates [Zürich]

Given the cost of electricity in Switzerland is so cheap relative to average incomes when compared to other countries why is this discussion even relevant

All times are GMT +2. The time now is 04:07.
