Moving out cleaning

Hi, I am trying to search for the thread on this topic but couldn't find hence the post.
Is it compulsory to engage a professional cleaner when we move out of the rented apartment?

Thanks for the advice!

Cheers,

Re: Moving out cleaning

No. But a professional should know everything that needs to be done and should offer a guarantee.

Cheers,
It can depend on the type of apartment (serviced apartment) or on the contract terms.

Re: Moving out cleaning

Check the contract. A rental agency that shall remain nameless insists on a professional one even though it's not mandated as such in the contract. Be prepared to spend the entire day cleaning up if you're going to do it on your own. It took three of us 4 hours to do a thorough job (i.e., clean the filters, vents, etc.), and we had to buy a ton of cleaning of supplies. In hindsight, I would have hired a professional firm.

Re: Moving out cleaning

Thank you all for the insight, will get someone to read the contract for me again. I heard engaging a professional cleaner cost more than CHF750 for just a few hours job, for a small apartment .

Thanks & Regards,
Felicia

Re: Moving out cleaning

I have done it before, and if I had to do it again, would rather pay someone to do it.

They look at the most intriguing places (behind the toilet, above the door, test each and every tap it the house, etc....) they expect it very, very clean. So unless you know that you have cleaned every inch of the apartment over your tenancy period, prepare yourself for a deep spring clean performance.

If you shop around, prices are given according to size and the current state of the property, so you could find something affordable and save your sanity! Because if they want to be picky and difficult, you are in for a bad ride!

Cheers,
Depends on how good your cleaning is! One of the pluses of having OCD, is that nothing goes unnoticed and uncleaned/polished where I am! In fact, I often end up cleaning the common areas/hallway after the cleaner has been! Annoying that what ever they wash the floor with leaves streaks!

Re: Moving out cleaning

Done it 3x myself with the wife(In Switzerland). 3 times past with flying colors. Did take us more than a day to do it nicely though. You can do things like windows and blinds etc way in advance (a week or so) to save you some time come moving time.

When we left the USA I even thought it was necessary to do it there.....got a nice call from the landlady afterwards that the place has never been so clean... and that we were the first ones to ever leave her a clean apartment
