Mail box name tag.

This may sound like a silly question but what do I put on my mail box name tag? Just our surmame ' Smith' or 'Smith family' ? Or do I list all names of occupants? No need for this In the UK but seems we have to do it in CH ... Any ideas!

Put whatever names on there you think letters will be addressed to; nothing else is necessary.

Flats here aren't numbered (officially) so post is addressed
name
street-name, no
ch-postcode, town

In other words, if a letter comes to your building (streetname, no) and the postie can't match the name on the envelope to one on a postbox, it doesn't get delivered.

Re: Mail box name tag.

If you're the only "Smith" in the block, then just put "Smith". There's no need for individual initials.

Re: Mail box name tag.

We went for the famille Smith option. Easier than putting all the initials plus the surname.
Confused the hell out of our postman as our name is actually Jones.

Re: Mail box name tag.

I would advise against putting your kids' names on the mailbox.

If you put your surname, all mail with that name will be delivered. If anyone has a different surname, then add that. Quite often you see that here with a hyphen between the names.

You can put first initials of the parents if you wish.

Re: Mail box name tag.

We just put Famille Smith. No initials, no names. They wouldn't deliver a single letter until we had it. But now all the employees at the post know us as the Americans, even thought my husband & kids are Swiss too.

Re: Mail box name tag.

We have the familie Smith-Jones option as they (postman or postoffice) constantly crossed my maiden name off and put my married name on the letters or packages we received. They sometimes still do but at least I don't get asked by the postman if the name on this package is my "lediger Name"
