Re: Building a 2nd bathroom

Thanks for that. We are actually looking at installing a shower, not a WC (there is one next to where we want to put the shower, but built on a boxed area for run off) - it is just that there is not he head space to do that for the shower on other side of the corridor. That should be perfect- will discuss with our plumber.

Re: Building a 2nd bathroom

My sister in law is constantly needing her Saniflo bathroom fixed. We installed a new WC a couple of years back and went with the full-sized pipe. They drilled through to the next floor and the pipe is in the basement. We are a 4 person household with 4 WCs

Re: Building a 2nd bathroom

Along the same vein, anyone with some recommendations on where to find some original bathroom/vanity mirrors?

Hornbach, Getaz, Sanitas, IKEA, Pfister, Micasa, Interio et al were all fairly standard

I had to google Saniflo. I'm sorry to say I have never seen it. Best ask a sanitary planner (I really have never come across something like this before).
My first appartment was in the converted back room of a very old house in Zürich's Niederdorf. Downstairs was a restaurant which had at some point been re-puposed as a bar so they didn't need the upstairs kitchen and thus the landlord decided to rent that out as a very basic and cheap appartment (to me). So my bedroom was the former office and my kitchen was the restaurant kitchen (it was huge) and they installed a shower there. It was one of these low cost contraptions with small diameter pipes and an electric pump you had to switch on so the waste water could be pumped out. It was an awful piece of equipment. It was very noisy and vibrated and occasionally made ugly gurgling sounds. The pump was so low powered and if you took a longer shower you sometimes had to stop to give the pump a chance to catch up. Also, the pipe was blocked regularly and although I did over time learn all the tricks of deblocking it myself it was a real pain.

Proper plumbing isn't that expensive so I really don't see the point of these low cost solutions.

There's a little shop opposite Zürich HB selling lots of shabby chic and shabby kitch stuff. If you're into that sort of thing you'll find lots of very unusual designs there.

Ebay is also a good place.

Not sure which style you are looking for, but there are some styles from Asia and Africa online at: http://www.heine.ch/wohnen/moebel/
