Free Furniture Pickup in Zurich City

Greetings EFers,
Does anyone know of a free service to pick up unwanted furniture (e.g. bed frame, mattress, mattress pad, etc) in Zurich City - Wiedikon?

I've heard of one called Remar, but how does it work? Ideally, I can schedule a pick up this week, in the evenings when I am home to help.

The items are still usable and in good conditon. In the US, we have free pickup services from Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers
Sarah

There is too much good old furniture around. It is very difficult to give stuff away free of charge, usually you have to rent a truck and pay to have it destroyed!

You might be successful if you take photos and visit the Brockenhäuser and ask them if they will collect the items shown. Usually they have a 2 or 3 week delay, and will only collect during office hours...

Thanks for the idea! I may try this as a 'last resort' if the Brockenhaus doesn't work out.

It seems like it would be a bit of an eyesore to place a bed on Goldbrunnenplatz. Not sure the Swiss would appreciate a bedframe alongside their lovely fountain.

Can't believe the amount of perfectly usable furniture in this city going to waste. With the amount of immigrants, wish we could find a way to either publicly promote English Forum marketplace (before Ikea shopping trips), Craigslist in Switzerland, or establish more Goodwill - Salvation Army services.

I'm quite accustomed to the 'trickle-down' flow of goods and furniture in LA.
I guess here, everyone is too rich to want my free bed!

Sbrinz> I am discovering this as well! Makes one think twice and thrice before buying things willy-nilly that one may not truly need.

Thanks for the tip. I will stop by Remar and update if it works.

Re: Free Furniture Pickup in Zurich City

Update on the free furniture pickup front:

Whilst I found an awesome EF-er to come claim my bed, I will share my research for others' info. This is all per my understanding chatting with a Swiss guy on the phone, so it may not be 100% accurate.

As Sbrinz suggested, there is a Brockenhäuser (second hand shop) called Remar which can pick up unwanted, resellable furniture in Zurich. Call Remar at 084 477 7770, extension 2, and ask to make an appointment for a furniture donation pickup (about 2 week lead time). They are available between 9am-6pm.
Give your name, address, and local phone number to secure the appointment.

They will bring a van on the day of the appointment, look at all your stuff and decide whether it is resellable in their shop. If so, they will take it for free. If not, they may remove it for a fee.

It seems you could bring a photo of your stuff into the Remar shop in advance to see if they think it is even worthwhile.

Good luck cleaning house!
